MORRISTOWN, NJ (Expansionary News Service) March 17, 2010. Don't look now, but free over-the-air television might be ready to make a comeback! And it's resurgence might be helped by it's Pay-TV competitors such as Cablevision and Comcast who keep inventing new ways to antagonize their customers.

Or so claims Dr. Michael G. Zey, noted futurist/sociologist and author of The Future Factor, Seizing the Future, and Ageless Nation, in his two-part article for Examiner.com entitled "TV Is Still Free: Media Battles Like ABC–Cablevision Feud Might Spark FreeTV Renaissance."

Dr. Zey, National Future Trends analyst for Examiner.com, wrote that every time pay TV providers black out stations and networks, many of their customers explore ways to gain access to the lost programming. This happened on March 7th when Cablevision in New York stopped carrying ABC-TV, and back in 2002 when Comcast refused to carry the Yankee's YES network.

Such programming blackouts are now persuading some disgruntled customers to reacquaint themselves with free over-the-air (OTA)TV, which used to require a "rabbit ears" antenna but now uses an HD antenna. These new OTA users are discovering that they can receive dozens of new channels they could not receive on the older analog TVS. And to their surprise, the HD OTA signal is far superior to the cable and satellite HD system. All at no charge!!

From his offices in Morristown, NJ, Dr. Zey commented that he would not be surprised if more people drop their PayTV services over the next few years. "It is not inconceivable," he claimed, "it could become commonplace for many viewers to receive most of their programs via over-the-air TV and Internet-based online services that bring them HGTV, ESPN and CNN."

Is Pay TV taking notice?
