A Sunday Event at Paramount Ranch inside of the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest Annual Event will add value to your folk and country music frolic tomorrow in Agoura on Cornell Road.

For the anniversary of the original Southern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire, Friends of the Paramount Ranch will be featuring artists that have emerged from this catalyst themed event.  It is an opportunity to appreciate this history of this bucolic land/watershed and a recognition of  as well as artisan businesses and community economic stimulus throughout local, state, regional, and national areas demonstrating the tourism, cultural and economic impact of the original Renaissance Pleasure Faire.

Recognizing the Market Cross, on the Southern Faire Site whose history bore witness to years of returning performers trekking between Black Point in Novato (Northern California) and Agoura (Southern California). "Our Faire" has launched many a career, business, hobby, professor, or profession(al).

Humbly beginning as a class project of an educator and teaming with Pacifica Radio (KPFK, now in fund drive)  surrounded by a cadre of artists in Laurel Canyon.  The event grew out of a small backyard to an international phenomenon.  Drawing from neighborhoods like Topanga, Laurel Canyon, Malibu, Santa Monica, Culver City, Noho, Glendale, Pasadena, Claremont, Venice, Eagle Rock, Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Silver Lake, Central Los Angeles and so many more, it continued to peak interest, study, and practice as a regular social and business event. From the Valley to the Inland Empire and from San Diego, Ventura/Ojai/Santa Barbara and many other cultural enclaves East, North, and Central that were touched by the first "Hear Ye, Hear Ye, the Faire is Open" call.  From restaurants to costumers, from construction to security, the Faire has been  welcomed by music stores, educators, performers and musicians and featured or supported by guilds, manufacturers, gear producers, designers, university faculty or classroom teachers. Theme Events Ltd and the Patterson family and their friends have spurred the professional development that has filled clubs, mentored artists, built venues, and featured entertainment and events.

One such artist is Derek Dickson, songwriter, composer and guitarist who bi-locates between Bisbee, Arizona and Encino.  He will be playing songs composed at the "Ren Faire" titled "Brewer's Jig" and "Bennett's Mug" that evolved from performances with the Claire Zero Consort on the Paramount Ranch grounds. He played at the Ash Grove, the Troubadour, and McCabe's Guitar Store.  He studied George Van Eps and played with Ted Greene. In San Francisco, he shared the stage with The Tubes (Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium), Bo Diddley, Sons of Champlin and has just released his first title on CD Baby (see store for listening or purchasing below. For the Music Center, he taught a course in 2006 called "Get your chops back" (Blues and Jazz genre).  As an example, this "Faire" denizen has a national career and is returning to the site to share the original tunes that led to his present releases.
