[00:03:34] All right, let's get to the main event. Steven Kuhn is here. He's a great friend of mine. We hit it off really big about a year ago when I first met him. He's a decorated U.S. military combat veteran who has been handpicked to consult with some of the most influential people in the world.

[00:03:51] I'm talking rock stars, singers, actors, business leaders, politicians, just amazing list of clients. Steven is a best selling author and has a new book just released with his partner and co-author that Special Forces Green Beret veteran Lane Belone, who I think is going to be on later in Veterans Month. And the title is Unleash Your Humble Alpha. This has been getting a lot of great accolades and the subtitle is Own Your Presence in Life and become the epic leader you are meant to be.

[00:04:27] Steve, are you ready to screw? The commute?

[00:04:32] I am indeed.

[00:04:33] How are you doing, man?

[00:04:34] All right, man. Great to see you.

[00:04:36] You know what's pitiful? I can't even remember what country you live.

[00:04:40] I live in Hungary. Hungary.

[00:04:41] There you go. Exactly.

[00:04:43] Well, I'm hoping it's not as crazy in Hungary as it is over here in the United States right now.

[00:04:49] It's not. Thank God. It's very humane, actually. They ended up segregating. Basically, older people are allowed to go out and go shopping and stuff until 12:00 noon. And after that, everyone is. But that was only for two or two and a half months. Now everything's back to normal.

[00:05:03] Everybody wearing masks or not masks or what.

[00:05:06] Only in certain stores in the big city, but, you know, not in the streets now, I haven't seen anybody wearing on the streets just when you want to see shops and stuff.

[00:05:15] Well, good, good. Because, yeah, it's all over the place over here.

[00:05:20] But I don't go to Italy. I was in Italy last week and it was the same thing. And I posted some pictures on the Internet and I had all the I like to call in the mask brownshirts, the brownshirt, you know, they they like chastised me. This is why I can't travel to Italy, because you're not wearing a mask, that kind of stuff. And, you know, it's like, hey, this is a law. You know, this is what they allow here. It's a green zone. We're good, you know. Yeah. So, you know, it's everyone is responsible for themselves and you have to take him as the leader. Yeah, because when you walk into a restaurant and you're on the street, you step in the door, you put it on you on your table, you take it off. I mean, it's crazy.

[00:05:56] It's like, what's the point? Yeah. Yeah, the mask. People are making a fortune as such. But I saw this thing over. There was an Oriental thing where it was the most filthy dungeon looking room you can imagine. And people with bare feet and filthy were making masks and they're laying on the floor and everything and they're sending them down.

[00:06:23] Well, good to catch up with you, man. As Vetpreneur's Month, we love our veterans around here and we salute you for all you've done for our country. And and you lead a big group of veterans on on Facebook. Tell us about that.

[00:06:36] Yeah, it's called the Vetpreneur Tribe. We're almost 15000 veterans and we focus on taking entrepreneurs to the next level, whether it's scaling, growing marketing, brand language, branding. And the cool thing about the group is that we're almost self-sustaining. So when someone in the group needs marketing, there's someone in the group that does it.

[00:06:54] Someone needs, you know, consulting or or whatever it is where we're almost self supportive when so we encourage using each other services, buying from each other, and we have regular promotions like that. We also have a paid group called the Warrior Council, and they have with Layna myself once a week, an hour. And then they have an hour on their own as well in their respective squads. And then we focus on specific factors every week. And then they go on, break off into their squads and then ensure that they're implementing that in their business as well. Beautiful. Beautiful. It's yeah, it's great. It's a great mission.

[00:07:29] Yeah. And I got one one more part of the series. I was doing a few that just got sidetracked with this pandemic. But I'm going to do probably in the next several weeks viral marketing. So all of the mechanisms to really for almost nothing, make your your message spread.

[00:07:46] So so tell us about the this HIT principal. How did you develop it? And I know you live your life like that and so do I.

[00:07:54] Like I said, as soon as we met, we hit it off really good. Yeah, I know.

[00:07:58] It was right away. Um, well, you know, HIT it's probably the first thing I ever developed that meant something to me that was mine that I owned. And the three words honesty, integrity, transparency may not mean a lot of people, a lot to a lot of people. But when I explained to you that honesty stands for the honesty that I have with myself first in every situation, am I really saying what I want to say or am I saying it because I want someone else to think a certain way or I'm trying to, you know, leverage something to get what I want and being honest with myself, brutally honest with myself about my actions and reactions to everything around me. The transparency part is how I step into the world with that, with that honesty. So it's my ongoing reputation.

[00:08:37] Basically, my word is my bond, this kind of thing, and the byproduct of those two, let's say, conscious activities that you have 24/7, which then turns into a habit, the byproduct is integrity. Integrity makes you super authentic and it allows you to dictate your own market value, which is why, you know, I went from zero online presence to the no to military entrepreneur influencer in America made 100k and was on six stages within three months of going online. And it's all based on people know that when I talk I'm telling the truth and that they can trust me. And that comes from HIT. HIT was formed. I was training HIT and caught in the corporate world, in Europe and in the UK, you know, UK, Southern Europe. And I myself and I never really put the acronym to it. I just wrote Honesty, Integrity, Transparency. And someone said to me said, hit your the man.

[00:09:31] And I just know. And it just sort of stuck. And of course, I'm not going to turn that into that nickname.

[00:09:39] Well, it's very powerful when you live by it. There's so many, so many actions that go with it, like no expectation. So either you have an expectation and you verbalize it or you have no expectation. That breaks away all kinds of grief and disappointment. So there's a whole bunch of it's in the book. It's it's one of the five models we explain in the book. Yeah.

[00:09:56] Yeah. It makes decision making much easier to.

[00:09:59] Oh, you don't have to think and cover. Well, what did I say last time to cover your tracks? None of that is very easy.

[00:10:06] And it's you learn to use your intuition based on your core principles of head, you know, and it's just it's something that frees you up. I mean, honestly, once you drop the expectations and start using your intuition, you're sometimes just sitting and going, why is my head empty? Because I'm not thinking of anything. I'm not thinking like, oh, my God, what is she thinking? Or he thinking or I said that I wonder what I'm going to do and when I was going to react, forget about it, because they're all thoughts, right? Thoughts like. Ninety nine percent people on the planet react to the thoughts about what's going on, on and not actually what's going on. And when we realize that those thoughts are things that we can change like that, then your world becomes a whole different place or we need you over here.

[00:10:44] I'm telling you, because people are reacting, this stuff doesn't make. Any sense at all and yeah, it's it's really becoming a problem, so so your co-author, Lane, the Special Forces guy, how did you meet him?

[00:11:00] He like I go to Peru every year and work with the secret plant medicine ayahuasca in San Pedro. They call it the mother and the father. It's about the balance of spirituality and grounding. And he came to one of one of the retreats in Peru. We met I met him in a veterinary tribe and then we met in person in Peru. And we just hit it off and decided right then and they're going to work together. That was almost that was about two and a half years ago.

[00:11:24] Yeah. And he's he's very active in the in the group group also. You had a story I'd like you to repeat it last time about a your wife's not around I don't think, but know it was something about when you were working and you wanted to go out with one of the people at work.

[00:11:44] You remember that story because I mean, that that was quite often actually.

[00:11:49] Oh, if you're talking about what in Europe, it's OK.

[00:11:55] It's not a big deal. We've talked about my wife. I met on the first day or so. I went to see your boss or something. I was her boss.

[00:12:04] Oh, okay. Yeah. So that's the one. Yeah.

[00:12:06] Yeah. So I, you know, I was I had just come out of the monastery so I had a I had a suicide attempt and by pulling the gun out of a policeman's holster in Germany, they stopped it, had sympathy with me, didn't press charges, which was crazy that that's really something right there. Well, you know, police officers and yeah, it's a different thing, but yeah, they ninety ninety percent of them have never even pulled their holster out of there. Out of there. I mean, they're done out of their holster weapon. So they're very social. They're very they're they're all about de-escalation like 100 percent. And they don't jump the gun. I mean, they get if they fire around they're in trouble period. Like it's just the way it is. So it's sort of like how our cops are becoming in America anyway.

[00:12:50] Yeah, right.

[00:12:51] And so and I had just come out of the monastery, I was clear and clean and loved life. And I got a call from my old corporation. They said, hey, we got a job for you. I'm not going back to you guys ever again. You guys ruined me.

[00:13:04] And they said you had some pretty low points in your life. There's no question about that.

[00:13:10] I was homeless. And, I mean, it wasn't ridiculous. I mean, I was 33 years old. Just out of the military was twenty seven. I was top of my game. Corporate manager, director of Europe for operations and development. Three and a half thousand employees, nine countries making three hundred plus a year love and life. And then it crashed and lost everything. And my ex-wife as well and all kinds of stuff anyway. So I got out and I got out of the monastery and they said, we got a job for us in Budapest. I was like Budapest. Oh, never been. And they said, it's only three months. I said, what's three months? And they paid me really, really well. So I fly to Budapest, first day in the country, first day in the fur.

[00:13:46] In the new business that I was taking over, the first person I saw was this incredibly beautiful woman. And I was like, that's my new wife, that's my wife.

[00:13:57] And I said it to myself, and then I'll be damned. We're married today. Eleven years later, I have two kids. I have two kids. I still live here. And so that's three three months contract turn into eleven years. I don't work for that company anymore. Of course, that company I actually worked for the company for five years after that. So yeah, it was, it was incredible. And that was I take that all down to intuition again. Right. No expectations. I walked in, I saw her. I told her what I thought. I said, you're the most beautiful face I've ever seen. And she's like, your is over there like, oh, who's this cheese ball?

[00:14:28] Right. You know, like the first the first thing he says to me when he meets me is I'm beautiful. Oh, my goodness. It's so cliche, but I meant it.

[00:14:35] And I guess she felt it. And after about three months of practically begging, we got together.

[00:14:44] I have two beautiful kids. And now how how are you now?

[00:14:50] What are their ages? Five and six. Five and six now. So you parents are going to mold the future of those children. So how at that young age is there any HIT principle that applies to, oh, hi, how are you doing that? Because around here, boy, kids are getting raised up with just no direction whatsoever.

[00:15:13] Well, it's funny you ask that because the book that Lane and I wrote, at least your humble alpha is written for men. But but funny enough, about 60, 60 percent of all the buyers are women to give it to their family.

[00:15:28] Well, I asked I asked a whole bunch of women. I said, why did you buy this book? And they said, one, we want men like this. And two, we want to raise our children, our children like this. Huh?

[00:15:38] And so I was actually asked to speak at a parents summit on raising powerful, humble children. And it's literally the entire book is can be written for children, it can be written for women, it can be written for men or whatever. So, you know, it's all it's all about that feedback loop you have with your children. You don't you don't attack them in the moment when something happens, you wait till later. I saw you were a little upset there a couple of minutes ago or an hour ago or whatever, you know. You feeling better now? I feel better. What happened? Would you feel you know, you have to have that feedback and then you give that lesson, whatever that lesson is, when they're open for it? Not in the moment. Mostly we always want to command you, stop it, go to bed, eat and all these kind of things, which we do as well sometimes. But it's it's there's a difference between the end results and the intention. We always go a lot of parents go with the end result in mind. I want you to do this right now. If my intention is I want them to learn how to get there so they do it on their own later and properly then I approach it completely differently. Because in in any conversation, in any exchange, the only control I actually truly have is the intention and not the outcome, especially in business. So if I focus the goodness, the integrity in the intention, then the outcome will be according to how they get their best with my guidance.

[00:16:57] You could be the Dr. Spock of Budapest.

[00:17:01] There we go. Come on, you got to come out with a humble Alpha coloring book.

[00:17:09] That's a good one.

[00:17:09] Oh, no, seriously, they sell like crazy. I mean, the coloring books and kids books sell like crazy. You'd be doing the world a favor, you know, getting the kids a better start than actually that's a great idea.

[00:17:21] Yeah. Humble Alpha Coloring Book. Yeah. Good. So tell us about the book.

[00:17:28] Well, the book is literally it's a step by step five stage, let's say, training manual, but written in a different way to get you to unleash your humble alpha, which is your true identity. Now. We go through the five core sort of models, the first one is hit, of course, honesty, integrity, transparency. Second one is creating space and creating space as part of the most powerful tool in the whole book. And creating space is a simple concept where when I go into any interaction, speaking to you today with my wife or whoever it is, I have one intention and one attention only needs to add value. So I want to add value by solving problems, helping them out. I don't have any expectations. I don't have any preconceived notions and no cookie cutter solutions, especially in a business meeting when you show up as a salesperson. They're expecting you to sell, so if you don't start selling, they're going to be like, OK, they're going to be at ease, like, OK, this guy's not pushing me and that's where we're that space comes from. That creating that space comes from meaning that suddenly there's no pushing, no pulling, no preconceived notions. No. No cookie cutters, no. You know, interrupting you when you're talking, thinking, I know what you're going to say and just making my pitch, it loosens up the entire sort of aura of the area, I guess, if you will. And everyone's sort of like leans in and steps in together and they create that third entity, which we call the mastermind.

[00:18:48] And you come up with solutions and procedures and structures and ideas that you never would have come up with on your own ever. And I do it all the time. That's how I solve business problems. So then when we go on to life enterprise Life Enterprise is where the CEO of our own life enterprise, just like a CEO of a business enterprise and the CEO answers to the stakeholder right and the stakeholders in our life as everyone we know, basically our family, our friends in the down the street post office work or whatever. And our job as CEO for these stakeholders is to leave them in a better place than when we met them. So if I meet my wife for the first time when she comes home from work, when that first interaction is through, she feels better than when she came home from work. When I go to the post office and I buy a stamp, that woman behind the counter, that man behind the counter feels better when I leave than when I came. And you do that because you really want to do that. And there's a reason you want to do that is because you're creating and creating what we call radiant value. Your feeling, your world with that ripple effect of value, constantly elevating others, you know, investing in their relational capital, which is number four. Right. So you're always hitting that pebble in the water and spreading those rings out of radiant value of goodness of elevation, leaving them in a better place.

[00:20:03] I think I missed that one a little bit, that because even though it's the idea is correct, when when I leave, people are say, oh, I'm glad he left that they feel better.

[00:20:16] I don't know. That's exactly not true at all. And I am a witness to that. That's not true at all. I know you're a humble guy, but that's not true at all.

[00:20:26] And it's so powerful when you do this because people really look forward to seeing you. They really look forward to working with you. They want to work with you. They asked to work with you. They asked to be with you. It drives your you know, it drives a deeper relationship with everyone around you.

[00:20:41] What was the third one called? You got HIT. You go create space, life, enterprise, life, enterprise.

[00:20:47] Yeah. Number four is investing in relational capital, just like with monetary capital or with investing in capital. You have a return expected, but with relational capital you have a guaranteed return. So get the return investing invested capital means digging deeper, so not just creating space, not just leaving them in a better place, but actually doing something with them for them so that they could move forward in a better way. And that's usually a sustained relationship. So I just keep investing in there and in the relationship with you together by adding value with no expectations, giving with no expectations. And no expectation thing is hard, let's face it, you know, you do some for somebody and you're like, OK, I think that if I do this, they should realize that they need to do something to. Well, I don't know. Either you verbalized that expectation or you don't have the expectation. So all of those four things lead to the fifth one, and that's QOL quality of life. Now, if anyone's ever watched one of my four hundred and ninety four hundred ninety episodes of The Daily Purge, you'll hear me at the end. It's all about quality of life. And that's that's something that I live by. And all of this creates that integration across all areas of life. You see a lot of people take their identity from their position or from their title. And if you've heard you've heard the guy say or the girl say, do you know who I am on the CEO or whatever? And you're like, well, actually, that's what you do. Who are you really? And most people are like, what do you mean? And it's a litmus test for that.

[00:22:19] If you're at work and your wife or your husband or your boyfriend or girlfriend is a fly on the wall at work, will they even recognize you and vice versa when an employee or a partner is in your house, you know, as a fly on the wall, would they recognize you there? And typically, I can say they won't because very few people are aligned across all aspects of life. So you want the integration of the person you really are, the identity that you really, really are across all areas of life. And what that does is it creates an unstoppable magnetic presence everywhere around you. Every room you step into, you own it. Every time you you you step in front of people. They just love you. They wow. This person's got something. What is it? That's a 100 percent knowing and certainty because once you have your identity nailed, your purpose crystallizes right in front of you. When that happens, it amplifies your identity and that creates certainty. And certainty is probably one of one of the most important things that we can gain because that allows you to let go how you're going to get to where you're going to get there. So you make a plan. I want to get there and then you just let go and go and you know, you're going to make it because you're certainly going to make it because it's based on your core principles. Hit your you know, you're creating space. You're treating your life like a like like an enterprise. You're investing in relational capital. And your results are quality of life.

[00:23:36] Quality life is different for everyone, but for us, it means more time with family, more time for yourself, more free time doing what you love, hobbies that you love and things like that.

[00:23:44] Well, I know you walk your talk, man, because when I was up at the Military Influencers Conference, it was like, I don't know, you would move through like a bubble of people just all around you. It just I just love you everybody.

[00:24:00] Do you everybody loved you. So you're doing the you're doing the thing. And I thank you for inviting me up there last year. So what are they doing with that this year? I made an application. There was like a little pitiful application to speak online, but it didn't give much details of what was going on.

[00:24:19] It's an online conference. They're doing it somehow online. I'm not involved because we only do in-person stuff. We do the business accelerator. So I spoke at it three years ago, I think, in Orlando, but it's it's about 60 percent male spouses and military spouses this year, I think in the rest is military. So I don't really know much about it. But yeah, it's all online.

[00:24:42] Yeah. Yeah, it's it's coming up this time. So how do they get a hold a book.

[00:25:20] Well, I mean, I can't even explain the the feedback we're getting. I mean, it is people in tears. People say, who did you write this like like this came from you guys really you know, it's like they're just completely baffled. But I have to tell you what it is. Every chapter starts with a story about the story, about my life, about Lane's life, you know, the things we all like my time in Iraq, his time in Libya or Syria or wherever, and how we overcame certain situations. It's not a military book. So it's not that, but just a little bit of that in it.

[00:25:51] It's all we talk about our trials and tribulations as human beings and how we broke through to become, you know, what we like to call great leaders and leaders. Great leaders are followed. They don't lead, leaders don't lead, leaders are followed. So they do what's right and people automatically follow them. So if I have to blow the trumpet and say, follow me, then I'm probably not a great leader. I know a lot of people don't agree with that. Also, we believe and we preach in the book that everything comes from the inside out so you can learn structures, you can learn help. You can learn all these management manipulation methods of how to speak perfectly and how to be a great leader on the outside. But until you're leading yourself, accepting yourself 100 percent on the inside, you will not be that epic leader you're meant to be. But we know it's already in there. And that's why we wrote the book, because everyone can read it, can release it and can unleash it.

[00:26:38] So how did you collaborate on it? Did he write one chapter? You wrote the next one or, you know, combined?

[00:26:45] We just work. We created space and we just started talking. And the way we wrote it is we were interviewed and they took the transcripts, wrote them down, and we tweaked it. They tweaked it. We tweak that. They tweet that we took. So so I kept going back and forth. We'd add and take away what fit, what didn't fit. We just spoke freely. And that's that's how I've written all my three books that I've written is always with an interview. It just because for me I'm like I'm a talker so and I visualize this.

[00:27:14] So when, when I, when I get into a story, you start going down that rabbit hole and down the rabbit hole is where the the truth, the nitty gritty, the pain, the, the vulnerability, that's where it comes from. If I'm in my head all the time, then I'm just going to write something logical. I don't like writing logic, like writing emotional, like letting people know what it's like, you know, I know what it's like to feel how they feel. And Lane knows what it's like to feel how they feel and that we made it to where we are today by doing what's in this book. So every chapter is a story, a lesson, the structure of the lesson and then action steps. And you don't move on to the next chapter until you're finished with those action steps. And by the time you're done with the book, it's only like two hundred and eleven page book. You will be in a place where you going to be like, holy shit, I own my own, I own my shit, I own it like I own everything that I do that my friend, that is the most powerful position to be in.

[00:28:00] You know why so many women are buying it? I'll tell you, there is an article or some kind of stuff.

[00:28:06] News item came out that said the women can't find good men. Yeah.

[00:28:14] They find all these soy boys. They can't do anything. You can't trust them. They can't, you know, get a job.

[00:28:19] They're living in their parents basement playing video games. And so the good ones are taken. Oh, yeah. So they want to try to try to get some people to marry.

[00:28:31] Well, you know, and that's the cool thing about it, is anyone can be anyone can go through this book and come out to the side, an amazing, incredible person, because it's not about the leader.

[00:28:40] The leader is the byproduct of being the person that you're meant to be. That's where leadership comes from. When you're at ease with who you are and your presence is just beaming, people will follow you. And that's what constitutes a leader, the humble alpha.

[00:28:54] Let me let me read that again for everybody. The unless you're humble Alpha own your presence in life and become the epic leader you are meant to be. Well, thanks so much for coming on.

[00:29:06] I really appreciate the good catching up with you. I hope you get into the States at all this year.

[00:29:13] Oh, no, no. I was booked. I was booked for I think it was July and then, you know, flights were canceled. Credit card processing company went broke. The money didn't get transferred. And Lufthansa changed my flight three times and then they cancelled everything.

[00:29:26] So, yeah, it's crazy now.
