The cross-over SUV segment has never been hotter, especially for those in the luxury class.  With more great models to choose from than ever before, it makes sense why Cadillac sharpens its focus on this all-important class of vehicle. The 2023 XT4 Sport represents the car-makers latest effort into the XT4 and it is undoubtedly poised to be a good value-play when compared to its German rivals.

The XT4 has a bold, sharp-looking design that’s uniquely Cadillac, offering a brilliant combination of masculine lines with enough subtleties to give it an overall athletic look. We love the front grill that almost seamlessly molds itself in the LED headlamps.

Lifting up the hood reveals a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s good for 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels by way of a nine-speed automatic transmission that does have a manual shifting mode. Look for zero sixty times in just under 8-seconds. The XT4 does get decent fuel economy with an EPA rating of 24 around town and up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway. It rides on 20-inch wheels that are outfitted with Continental ProContact TX tires. Braking chores are handled by 12.6-inch vented disc brakes in the front and 12.4-inch in the rear.

While the previous model year offered a ton of tech, the 2023 model brings blind-spot monitoring as well as rear cross-traffic alert. There’s still the adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and frontal collision alert with emergency braking. Also new for 2023 are two new colors to choose from; Argent Silver Metallica as well as Radiant Red Tintcoat.

With the Sport trim, you get adaptive dampers on the suspension, front seats with excellent bolster support, great-looking wheels, blacked-out exterior trim, and interior accents the other trim levels don’t have.

We appreciate the stitched leather-looking surfaces and the faux-wood surfaces. Over it’s a comfortable place to be. There’s plenty of cargo space behind the rear seats – more than enough for those family outings to Costco. The rear legroom is excellent and offers a comfortable ride for those passengers. Plenty of charging ports avail and

The infotainment system uses a rather smallish 8-inch touchscreen and feeds a 13-speaker Bose audio system. Its audio reproduction is good but not as good as others we know of in competing vehicles. Why GM is so tied to Bose remains a mystery as most Bose products lag behind other audio brands. However, its reproduction will likely be good enough for many customers of the XT4. There’s Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto support, and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. If you opt for the technology package, you’ll also get a wireless charging pad for supporting smartphones, a heads-up display, and a digital gauge cluster.

On the road, getting the XT4 going is a bit lacking but the transmission does a good job of delivering the power and is smooth between the shift points. Handling is rather adept for a vehicle of this height — the XT4 feels rather nimble. The steering feel is a bit muted, we’d prefer a more weighted feel. However, that is completely subjective.

Cadillac ships the XT4 with a standard 6-year / 70,000-mile powertrain warranty, and one free maintenance visit during the first 12,000 miles or first year of ownership. The vehicle warranty that covers everything is 4 years or 50,000 miles.

If you’re looking for a stylish, comfortable cross-over SUV than make sure to book a test-drive at your local dealer. The XT4 certainly offers a lot of value.
