Long term Care Awareness Month 2019

November is Long-Term Care Awareness Month and to support those involved in the commemoration, the 2019 banner artwork has been released by the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI).

"The month of November is dedicated to focusing attention on the importance of long-term care and the millions of Americans who are touched and impacted by this very real need," explains Jesse Slome, director of the group that established the event.

"We specifically made the event generic in nature without the word insurance because Americans need to think about long-term care," Slome adds.  "Insurance is an important option but it's only a small part of the full picture."

"If there is a single unsolved problem in the retirement plans for many middle- and upper-middle-income Americans, it's what to do about long-term care costs later in life," Slome notes.   "Individuals and families without significant financial assets will need to rely on Medicaid and other government programs to pay for the majority of the long-term care costs in the U.S. "  According to Slome, long-term care expenditures in the U.S. have exceeded $230 billion yearly.

In the past Long-Term Care Awareness Month has been recognized by Congress as well as by numerous governors and mayors of major cities.  "For a grassroots supported event, it has grown and that's very pleasing to see," Slome adds.  "We certainly anyone who touches some part of the long-term care dilemma to get involved."
