[00:00:24] Hey everybody, it's Tom here with episode 1053 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today we're going to talk about thumbnail cycling. Or some people call it thumbnail recycling, where you put a new thumbnail on your videos that aren't performing that great, and see if you can jack them up a little better with better thumbnails. [00:01:05] Okay. Thumbnails are really are one of the factors that are critically important to your success. Wherever you might host videos YouTube, The Big Kahuna, Vimeo, Rumble, etc. the method I'm going to teach you today is totally free. Or it could cost you, I don't know, $0.04 per thumbnail. Okay. All right, so here's the deal. You search YouTube for videos on your topic area that have the highest number of views. Now I'm not going to say that have millions of views because some topic areas just don't have videos that go viral like that and some do. So the number of views is relative, but search for the highest number of views you can find, even a couple of them if you want, and screen capture the thumbnail for that video. You might even jot down the title to it. But this is you know, this episode is about thumbnails.

But anyway, you search YouTube for videos in your topic area that have the highest relative number of views for that topic. And you screen capture the thumbnail, you take that thumbnail and you upload it to ChatGPT, and then you prompt ChatGPT with the following prompt. What makes this thumbnail successful? And get your answer. And then it may give you some ideas that you would change the text on your thumbnail. But then you, you you reprompt and say make a similar thumbnail to the one I just uploaded with this particular text on it, and then you get that one. Now The free version of ChatGPT is a little bit slower, but still it's free. Now I get the $20 version and it's it's faster, but I'm also going to give you a way to get it really fast. That cost you a few cents. Okay, so you upload the thumbnail and replace it. Now you won't lose any views. I don't believe you lose any views when you replace a thumbnail. If you replace the whole video, it starts over, but you upload a new thumbnail and then you monitor it and see what happens. All right, so that's the totally free way to do this idea. Like I said, some people call it thumbnail cycling.

[00:03:50] And you know some people call it thumbnail recycling. Okay. So the super the super cheap way that's way faster is using an AI item called Nano Banana. It's really fast, but it does cost a little bit. Now you can access it directly, but I access it through a site called FAL.AI and it has many, many, many of the major chat services where you don't have to buy an individual subscription. So you can just buy credits. I put $10 worth of credits and the the things that I was working on yesterday, they cost $0.04 per graphic, custom graphics. Okay, that's what we're talking about here. Basically a thumbnail is a graphic and it'll do. And I'm going to have other episodes on this topic, not on thumbnails but on custom graphics. But you know, so I put $10 in, which is the minimum. And that gives me like 20 at $0.04 a piece roughly. And some are different prices. It's like 3.9 cents or something, but $0.04 a piece that gives me 25 graphics for a dollar, custom graphics, whatever. Now you can upload. I'll save this for our custom graphics section, but you can upload other things, or just tell it what you want and it'll create a custom graphic for you. So anyway, that's the idea of thumbnail recycling that can one different thumbnail could possibly ten, 20, 30, 40, 50 times the number of views you're getting on some of your videos now. So don't, uh, don't discount the thumbnails. It's like one factor. I mean, you got to have proper titles and, you know, miscellaneous stuff.
