1) Pathophysiology of COVID-19 2) Testing Site Hassles 3) Covid-19 & Domestic Violence.

1) More on COVID-19 -- the two labs in Wuhan that were handling dangerous virus

This HND piece goes into more information on the virus pandemic. We start with a full rundown on the two labs in Wuhan that were handling dangerous viruses, and how they could have escaped—accidentally or otherwise. This includes an explanation of the Biosafety Level criteria and the lack of any publicized audit trail. And then there's the matter of whether or not this pathogen could have been specifically engineered.

We segue into the latest on hydroxychloroquine, and the lamestream media's bizarre attempts to stigmatize that therapy, even going so far as to put lipstick on that pig of a VA study. Also included is an interesting new theory on the pathophysiology of COVID-19

2) Curious about what's going on at the testing sites?

Having returned from a wedding in Los Angeles in early March where many were already on lock-down and self-isolation, and suddenly developing what looked like "pink eye" or conjunctivitis which didn't seem to improve, I decided to go for Coronavirus testing. Pink eye is one of the many symptoms associated with the virus, and I'm in the over 65 age group.

The good news is that I don't think I have it, or had it, but despite being tested twice, nobody is really certain. The bad news is the process of testing here in Miami-Dade County has been challenging, to say the least, and not especially encouraging. It's raised many questions in my mind. Here's what happened to me in the past few weeks, in five brief episodes:

3) Shelter at Home Does not Mean Safety at Home [COVID-19]

Domestic Violence and Child Abuse on the Rise

Financial stress. Social isolation. Being with your family 24/7 and not knowing when this will end. These conditions may put family members at risk. Before COVID-19, if you or a loved one were concerned about violence or abuse, they could stay with a family member, go to shelter, lean on their religious community, or remove the abuser through a protective order. Many of these options are no longer available, as many shelters have reached their maximum capacity and are not able to take in new victims (although this is not the case with NEO shelters).

All these factors can leave victims feeling trapped.

Also, children who are usually in school, daycare, out with friends, or at the playground, are home, which can add to stress levels for everyone.

Child abuse can take form in name-calling, verbal assaults, withdrawing love, abandonment, and failure to provide adequate education, shelter, and nutrition.

Without hope, victims are at increased risk for substance use abuse, eating disorders, and low self-esteem.

4) Impending Food Shortage to Provoke Civil Unrest

The $213 billion meat & poultry industry that includes such corporate titans as Tyson Foods, Inc., Smithfield Foods, Inc., Cargill, Inc., JBS USA and Hormel Foods Corp. have already closed 12 US plants and are operating at far less than capacity at many others because of worker contracted Covid-19 virus. According to the Wall Street Journal article 23 April 2020 Grocers Hunt for Meat as Coronavirus Hobbles Beef and Pork Plants, production is down 24% for beef, 20% for pork and 10% for poultry. The shutdowns by these large food companies is an ominous sign that genuine food storages are arriving sooner than you can imagine.

Furthermore farmers have been reluctantly dumping up to the equivalent of 5% of the US annual milk production and reluctantly destroying and burying crops because of the logistical and market disconnect of supplying the consumer market directly.

Moving down the proverbial food chain, as outlined in the MSN article 28 April 2020 Food Banks Are Closing And Losing Their Work Force, the nation's food banks are closing because of several reasons:

· Fewer donations.

· Limited refrigeration capacity for perishable items.

· Inability to re-stock because orders that normally took 8-12 days to arrive now arrive in 8 weeks.

· Increased demand ranging from 40%-100% due to a deluge of suddenly unemployed workers who are in financial distress.

· Fewer volunteers to operate them.

5) UBER and Get Real Marketing tactics

Keeping a "voice" in the marketplace despite dire government warnings, was and still is a wise business move.

During this pandemic, consumers have not stopped shopping or searching for solutions, this is witnessed by studying Google Search trends. Demand is building up in auto, furniture and other retail categories, national web based businesses are seeing record sales, WayFair for example..

Uber has had to pivot from a delivery model of humans to a delivery model of packages. It's ben relatively successful despite early criticism {Stock has recovered substantially since the dramatic drips a few weeks ago.] Uber takes a negative perception like: "driving with a stranger is dangerous" and owns that fact, and then uses their messages to reward American's for being safe, thereby building future good will.

With a consumer today, an "Honesty" strategy pays dividends, when Domino's Pizza discovered their consumer quality impression ratings in 2009, they launched a campaign owning up to quality issues and promised that they would make it right. Today consumers want transparency form companies and a sense of connection with company leaders over issues.

[When Domino's launched that "New Ingredients" TV campaign, their stock doubled in 12 months]

Being forthright works. Consumers wants "real". Slick and sappy does not play any more in America. That generation of marketing has passed.

"Real marketing" gets it done.

6)  Facing Coronavirus, a Miami Homeless Veteran Finds He is Not Alone

This former Marine was facing coronavirus alone on the streets of Miami when he called VA. From birth, his name was a prayer for God's protection.

In 1973, that benediction would be especially important as 21-year-old Theodius Stanley, a proud son of Georgia, swore his oath as a United States Marine and soon found himself on the frontlines of what was then America's longest war.

Despite a 1973 peace agreement, the young Marine from the small town of Dublin knew the reality of violence that raged on against an often-invisible enemy in jungles far from the familiar lands of the Oconee River. Stanley's tour of duty ended a year after the last American troops came home in 1975. No longer in uniform, Stanley returned to civilian life in a traumatized America where those who served with dignity and valor were often ostracized and despised.

By the turn of the century, Stanley had joined legions of fellow veterans struggling on the edge of life.

7)   Can Sanitizing Ruin Your Stuff ?

That all depends on what products and processes you are using and surfaces you are trying to clean and sanitize. Here's a few important tips to help you avoid damage while sanitizing your home and belongings:

To avoid damage and or voiding a warranty, your best and first source of "how to information" before attempting to clean or sanitize anything should be the manufacturer's technical support line or website. As a last resort, search on-line for tips or a YouTube video related to what you want to sanitize.

• When using a commercial cleaning product or solution, read and follow the manufacturer's label instructions, if more information is needed or you have questions, call the companies technical support line or visit their website.

• Remove your jewelry and put it in a safe place. Gather all the supplies needed and wash your hands before you start cleaning.

• Wear rubber gloves, protective eyewear and a face mask when cleaning or sanitizing. Open doors and window to increase ventilation if odors are present.

• Make sure the power is off and the surface is cool when cleaning electronics, appliances or equipment that plugs-in or has batteries. This includes cell phones, computers, monitors and TV screens.

• Test the cleaning product and process in a small inconspicuous area (2 inches by 2 inches or less) before applying or trying to clean a large area or the entire item. If you are going to screw it up, it's best to keep it small and out of sight.

• Remove as much dry soil as possible with a duster, dry microfiber cloth or vacuum before attempting moist cleaning.

• Spray the cleaning solution, sanitizer or water on to a clean micro-fiber cloth or paper towel (for really small areas use a cotton swab). Do not spray solution directly on to the surface or item you are cleaning. This is especially important when cleaning keyboards/pads, buttons or switches.

• In most cases, after cleaning or sanitizing, dry the surface with clean dry microfiber cloth or paper towel to prevent water marks or streaking.

• • To avoid scratching delicate surfaces, do not use anything rough or abrasive on soft, smooth or shiny surfaces. The most sensitive surfaces are plastics, electronics, fabrics, wood, paper, natural materials and unsealed stone or concrete.

• Most other surfaces are fairly safe to clean and sanitize as long as you properly mix chemicals, follow label directions or use clean water and apply only a light mist or use a clean slightly moist microfiber cloth or paper towel. If the surface is textured or more aggressive cleaning in needed, gently use a soft bristle tooth brush, rubbing in small circles in each direction and wipe dry.

• Good Luck, Keep it Clean, Safe and Sanitized.
