Authentically American is an apparel brand with a fascinating backstory revolving around its founder. Most people don’t know that American manufacturers produce less than 3 percent of the apparel we wear each day. In 1980, American manufacturers produced almost 75 percent of our clothes and textiles. Now we depend on sweat factories in Latin America, Asia, and Mexico to produce clothes, towels, bedsheets, curtains and etc. We can trace the death of American factories back to the 1994 passage of the North American Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Fortunately, there is a cause for hope and celebration. There are some American patriots who believe in our nation enough to invest time, money, and sweat equity into the formation of American apparel companies. Joining me today is Dean Wegner, a West Point graduate and veteran. Dean is the founder of a 2017 company named Authentically American. Its vision was to “build an iconic American brand that is truly American made” and its mission was to “create American jobs and build a profitable business that is a great place to work.
