Dorian Mintzer, owner of RevolutionizeRetirement.com, a retirement coaching firm, was recently quoted as an expert in an August article by Kerry Hannon in The New York Times.

The article, Finding an Identity Beyond the Workplace, notes that when people retire, they may think that they are prepared for retirement, but they are often fooling themselves.  Many plan for retirement financially, but fail to plan anything else about this major life transition.  Those retirees are opting to hire a retirement coach like Mintzer, a trend that is growing in popularity.

Retirement coaches cater to a growing number of boomers who are grappling with what's next in their third stage of life.  The retirement coaching process usually starts with a self-assessment that examines values and strengths and clarifies goals, hopes and dreams for the future.

Mintzer notes, "Retirement is clearly no longer the destination that it used to be. Now, the likelihood is, you have 20, 30, maybe 40 more years ahead of you, and that's a long time to not know what you want to do. I've definitely seen an upsurge in pre-planning for people who want to think ahead and figure out what is it I want to do, how do I want to live my life, who will I be if I'm not working,"

Mintzer, M.S.W., Ph.D., B.C.C. (Board Certified Coach) has written about many topics pertaining to transitioning to retirement. She speaks to professional and community groups. As a coach, she helps 50-to-70 something women, men, and couples reinvent themselves in the next stage of life.
