Kateri Callahan, President

Kateri Callahan brings more than 25 years of experience in policy advocacy, fundraising, coalition building, and organizational management to her position as the president of the Alliance to Save Energy. The Alliance to Save Energy is a premier non-government organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Alliance has worked for more than three decades to advance energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security.

Serving as president of the Alliance since January 2004, Callahan leads a staff of nearly 90+; oversees a budget of approximately $17 million annually; and serves on the Alliance Board of Directors, which includes Members of Congress, state and local officials and top corporate and NGO executives. Under Callahan?s leadership, the Alliance conducts policy, communications, research, education, and market transformation initiatives in the U.S. and more than a dozen other countries. As well, the Alliance conducts international conferences, summits and other education and outreach forums to further its mission.

Callahan is the principal spokesperson for the Alliance, appearing regularly before the Congress and the media, and addressing conferences and gatherings around the world. She is a trusted source for credible information on energy efficiency and its role in addressing the environmental, economic and national security issues associated with the use of energy.

Callahan also serves as a ?C3E Ambassador?- a group of 20 distinguished senior professionals who share an interest in broadening the recruitment, retention, and advancement of highly qualified women in the field of clean energy. She also has chaired and currently serves as a member of the Keystone Center Energy Board and serves on the Board of the Business Council for Sustainable Energy. She also serves on advisory councils to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce 21st Century Energy Institute and the Institute for Electric Efficiency. In June 2009, Callahan was among the 23 inaugural inductees to the new Energy Efficiency Hall of Fame established by Johnson Controls Inc. and the United States Energy Association. Callahan also serves on the Advisory Board of Duke?s Center for Energy, Development and the Global Environment (EDGE) and the Advisory Board for the UC Davis Policy Institute for Energy, Environment and the Economy.

Prior to joining the Alliance, Callahan served for 11 years as the president/executive director of the Electric Drive Transportation Association. She also has served previously as a director of government relations for a nonprofit organization, as a non-lawyer professional at a Washington, D.C-based law firm, and as a legislative assistant to a U.S. senator.

Brian T. Castelli, Executive Vice President for Programs and Development

As the Alliance to Save Energy?s Executive Vice President for Programs and Development, Brian T. Castelli brings 30 years of national and international experience in the energy field, including expertise in energy efficiency, renewables, emission reductions and electricity demand reduction. Prior to joining the Alliance?s senior management team in July 2005, Brian ran his own energy consulting firm.

Castelli also consulted with the National Association of State Energy Officials where, on behalf of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, he conducted a series of public workshops in 14 western states on advanced, highly-efficient turbines and fuel cells that involved manufacturers, developers, utilities, and state and federal energy and environmental officials.

As a presidential appointee, Brian served as chief of staff to the U.S. Department of Energy?s (DOE) assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy from 1994 to 2001. He managed 550 staff members and more than $1 billion in programs and research, development and deployment initiatives and directed the development and implementation of energy policies and programs.

Brian also led and participated in missions to Western Hemisphere, European and former Soviet Union countries and was deeply involved in developing energy-efficiency measures for the eventual closure of the nuclear reactors in Chornobyl, Ukraine.

Prior to DOE, Brian was appointed in 1988 by Gov. Bob Casey to the Pennsylvania Energy Office (PEO), where he served as deputy director for administration and public affairs and then as executive director through 1994. As executive director he ran the state?s energy policies and programs, managed the state energy office and the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority and took the lead on responding to energy emergencies.

Notably, he developed a revolving loan fund for energy-efficiency measures and a ?Green Buildings? program for cutting energy use and costs in all commonwealth-owned or operated buildings and drafted legislation for and implemented an alternative fuel program.

In August 2006, Brian became a member of the Board of Directors of Conservation Services Group, a nonprofit energy services firm headquartered in Westborough, Mass., with 14 offices nationwide. Castelli holds two degrees from the University of Pennsylvania ? a bachelor of science in chemical engineering and an MBA in industrial/environmental management from the university?s Wharton School.
