Dr. Mitchell is an expert in preventing occupational exposure to HIV, hepatitis B and C, and other bloodborne diseases, to include use of safety medical devices and personal protective equipment (PPE). She has worked in the uniformed services, public, private, and academic sectors. Dr. Mitchell holds a Doctor of Public Health and a Master's in Public Health. She is Certified in Public Health. Dr. Mitchell has been published in many media, including The Hill, infection control.tips, Infection Control Today, American Nurse Today, Journal of Hospital Infections, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology (ICHE), and many more.
