Susan Mangiero, Ph.D., CFA, FRM

Dr. Susan Mangiero is an independent risk management and valuation consultant with more than 20 years of experience on both the buy and sell side in capital markets, trading, global treasury, asset-liability management, portfolio management, economic and investment analysis, derivatives, financial risk control and valuation.

Dr. Mangiero's time in risk management, modeling, valuation and compliance includes work for organizations such as General Electric, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Bank of America, Bankers Trust, First National Bank of Chicago and National Economic Research Associates. She was selected as the risk management specialist for the World Bank team tasked with a review of the Chilean national retirement program. Dr. Mangiero has done forensic and expert witness work on a variety of investment, risk and valuation cases. Her book, "Risk Management for Pensions, Endowments, and Foundations" (John Wiley & Sons, 2005), looks at risk management and valuation issues, with an emphasis on fiduciary responsibility and best practices. Her articles have appeared in Hedge Fund Review, Investment Lawyer, Valuation Strategies, RISK Magazine, Financial Services Review, Family Foundation Advisor, Hedgeco.net, Expert Evidence Report and Bankers Magazine.

Dr. Mangiero has written chapters for several books, including the "Litigation Services Handbook" and "The Handbook of Interest Rate Risk Management" She has been quoted in media publications such as the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Baltimore Sun, Bloomberg and Pensions & Benefits. She was profiled in Securities Industry News and the Journal of Indexes on the topic of investment risk management. She is regularly invited to address groups such as the U.S. Department of Labor, New York State Department of Insurance, National Association of Public Pension Auditors, Stable Value Investment Association and Financial Executives International as a keynote, moderator or workshop leader. She holds a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Connecticut, an MBA in Finance from New York University, a master's degree in economics from George Washington University, and a bachelor's degree in economics from George Mason University. Post-graduate computational finance work was done at Carnegie Mellon University.
