Survey results show increase in destination weddings and honeymoons despite economy. As destination wedding and honeymoon spending increases so will demand for wedding websites to serve planning and communication functions

Marblehead, MA, June 9, 2009 — Wedding expert, Amy Ruocco, president and CEO of WeddingWindow.com, is pleased to hear that destination weddings and honeymoons are considered the fastest growing segment in the industry, according to a reader survey conducted by the publication Destination Weddings &s Honeymoons. "Often wedding guests are unfamiliar with the location chosen for the wedding destination and need help making travel plans," she said. "Pre-wedding communication of all of the details involved in planning for and traveling to a destination wedding can be time-consuming and expensive," she stated. "However, creating a wedding website allows you to provide all of the wedding details in one place and is both convenient and affordable." Use of wedding websites as organizational tools is growing steadily.

According to Ms. Ruocco, a combination of communication and convenience are key considerations for a successful and enjoyable destination wedding. She offers the following tips about using a wedding website to help plan a destination wedding:

* Create website links directly to the reservation pages of the hotels, B&Bs or Inns that you recommend

* Make suggestions regarding local activities for those who may be extending their stay

* Make it easy for your guests to know what is both available and closely located to the wedding location

* Provide a calendar of pre-arranged events with directions to each event

"Your guests can make their travel plans using your suggestions about where to stay, what to do and how to get there," she said. "Your research makes it easier for your guests to plan their travel arrangements. You save your own time and money by reducing the number of phone calls you have to field and eliminating multiple mailings."

Despite the economy, destination wedding budgets are increasing, up from $19,800 in 2006 to $20,600 in 2009. The average age of today's destination bride is 33, compared to a U.S. average of 28 and 70% have graduated college. The average household income is $110,000. This information is not surprising to Amy Ruocco. "We work with many couples planning destination weddings and honeymoons," she said. Ms. Ruocco has observed that brides planning destination weddings are using their wedding website to showcase their special day and to easily communicate important information to their invited guests.

Wedding websites also allow the bride to share guestbook entries, photos, stories and videos after the wedding with friends and family who were unable to attend. "Destination weddings often tend to be smaller in size so a wedding website is an ideal way to easily share your wedding experiences with everyone, including those who could not be there with you in person," she concluded.
