TOP PUBLIC Transportation Leaders Are Honored By The American Public Transportation Association

Contact: Virginia Miller 202) 496-4816 vmiller@apta.com TOP PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION LEADERS ARE HONORED BY THE AMERICAN PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION ASSOCIATION Today, the top public transportation agencies and transit leaders in the United States were honored by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and more than 1,500 leaders from North America at the 2009 APTA Annual Meeting in Orlando, Florida. "The APTA Award winners are models of excellence in the public transportation industry who have significantly advanced public transportation," said APTA President William Millar. "Winning this prestigious award means that you are one of the national leaders in the North American public transportation industry." Three public transportation agencies, competing in three different categories based on annual ridership, were honored as the best transit agencies in North America. Winning the 2009 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award means that they have demonstrated achievement in efficiency and effectiveness from 2006 – 2008. The Innovation Award is an award given to public transit agencies that demonstrate innovative concepts in the provision of public transportation services. The recipient of the 2009 Innovation Award is Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake City, UT. This year's 2009 APTA Awards also recognized 6 individuals whose contributions have greatly advanced public transportation. This year there are two Outstanding Public Transportation Board Member Awards.
