Sarah Jessica Parker has joined with Shoe Revolt to fight domestic sex trafficking by donating and autographing three pair of her shoes to the online boutique launching Aug. 1 with proceeds going to fund anti-trafficking initiatives.
"It is particularly meaningful for us to receive this donation from the woman who elevated the shoe's status from accessory to best friend," noted Shoe Revolt president and philanthropist Ateba Crocker. "During Parker's iconic role as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, she once said, 'the fact is, sometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.' With Parker's special donation to Shoe Revolt, she is helping us kick human trafficking to the curb."
Shoe Revolt is a for-profit company intending to stamp out human trafficking by creating a social enterprise to produce a steady revenue stream through the sale of new and used donated shoes. All net profit will be dedicated to fighting human trafficking, with 50 percent going to charitable partner GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services), and the other 50 percent going to survivor educational scholarships and public advocacy. ShoeRevolt.com is an online shoe boutique that raises awareness of, inspires and empowers women to donate high-end shoes to eradicate human trafficking in the United States with every donated shoe sold.
Parker, who has starred on stage, small screen and big screen in Annie, Footloose, Hocus Pocus, Failure to Launch and others, will reprise her famous role in Sex and the City 2, which hits theaters on Friday, May 28. She has garnered 31 nominations for various awards and 20 award wins, including the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series (SATC) and an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (SATC).
But the woman who has donned some of fashion's most fabulous shoes is also socially and politically conscious. She is a member of Hollywood's Women's Political Committee and is UNICEF'S representative for the performing arts.
"We are delighted that Sarah Jessica Parker has decided to come on board with Shoe Revolt as a featured celebrity partner," Crocker says. "She has donated three lovely pairs of shoes, each with a distinctly different personality. She is a 'shoeista' who knows that the answer to stopping human trafficking lies under our shoes – or in Carrie's case, under her Choos!"
