Role of IT in Regulatory Compliance: Cerulean's John Avellanet to Speak at VCU School of Business

For its June 19th colloquia on information technology and regulatory compliance, Virginia Commonwealth University's business school will host Cerulean's Managing Director, John Avellanet.
Mr. Avellanet will speak to local Richmond-area IT executives and students in VCU's master's of business administration program on the role computer departments play in regulatory compliance, from Sarbanes-Oxley to HIPAA, and how executives need to place more emphasis on "information" management and controls rather than technology management.
Based on his own personal career experiences as a CIO accountable for regulatory compliance to the US Food and Drug Administration, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Export Administration Regulations, Mr. Avellanet will discuss:
• Regulatory agency expectations of information controls and transparency
• Challenges faced by IT departments regardless of industry
• Cost-effective compliance tactics and controls
• How IT executives can demonstrate compliance and strategic-level thinking
