Mega Millions Numbers Indicator: Lottery Hot and Cold Hit Charts of 2008Last Year's Numbers Predict Where Mega Millions Numbers Are Headed in 2009, Lottery Expert SaysBy Gail Howard By analyzing the year of Mega Millions drawings in 2008, we can get a perspective of where which numbers might be headed in 2009. Just as Wall Street analysts chart past price action to determine future price trends, we can analyze the past action of winning lottery numbers to make smarter number picks. As you know, the five white balls and the single Mega ball are drawn from two different number fields. So, we must analyze them as two separate lotto games, each with its own historical data bank of past winning numbers. After the Mega Millions number field was changed on June 24, 2005, the five white balls are drawn from numbers 1 to 56; and the sixth number, the Mega Ball, is drawn from numbers 1 to 46. The star performer of the Mega Millions white balls in 2008 was number 22. The hottest companion for 22 was 52, which hit together six times. In 2008, white ball 22, with 18 hits, had an average skip of 5, whereas the year's coldest number 37, with only 4 hits, had an average skip of 25. For 22, the trend is still up. Dividing the 56 white balls into groups of 8, number groups 9 through 16 and 25 through 32 accounted for 42 percent of the winning numbers in 2008, while number groups 33 through 40 and 49 through 56 accounted for only 20 percent. Keep in mind that "the trend is your friend" -until it proves otherwise. According to other charts, I have reason to believe that once 37 moves from its bottom position, it will change the trend of other members in its 33-through-40 group. Number 29 looks like it will keep the 25-through-32 group active. And watch 44 hit this month! The Mega Millions Hot and Cold Hit Charts show the number of times each number has hit (won) in the 105 drawings that took place in 2008 and shows the ranking of each number. At the top of the chart are the hottest numbers with the most hits; the coldest numbers with the fewest hits are at the bottom. HOW TO READ THE 5-BALL HIT CHART. At the top of the column for the Five White Balls Hit Chart, you will see that the hottest white ball number 22 had 18 hits (wins) and it ranks first; while number 14 ranks second with 16 hits. Numbers 13-30-42-44 are all equally ranked fifth with 13 hits each. At the bottom of that chart you see the coldest white ball number 37 has had only four hits during the same time period and ranks 14th. HOW TO READ THE MEGA BALL HIT CHART. The Mega Millions Hit Charts for the MEGA BALL number pick are read the same way as for the Five White Balls. At the top of the Mega Ball Hit Chart, the hottest numbers in 2008 were 36 and 38, which hit six times each. Number 26 ranks second with five hits. At the bottom of the chart, the coldest Mega Ball numbers 01-08-19-20-43 had zero hits in 2008. Those five numbers were also the coldest Mega Ball numbers in 2007. Number 20, the all-time coldest Mega Ball, has not had a hit for 130 games; 01 has not had a hit for 129 games; 19 has been out for 121 games; 43 is out 112; and 08 is out for the last 106 games. In case you think these numbers are "due" for a hit, consider the fact that since the change to the new number field, Mega Ball number 46 has had a skip of 194 games between wins; Mega Ball number 04 once skipped 178 games between wins; and Mega Ball number 28 skipped 171 games between hits. I would prefer to choose Mega Ball numbers 21, 35 or 45, which are trending upward. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- © 2009 Gail Howard.
