Hypnotherapy: The Better Way to Stop Smoking

One out of every five persons in the United States is a smoker. That's approximately 45 million adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They know they should stop smoking. Even President-elect Barack Obama admits that he has not given up cigarettes 100 percent.

Of course, the problem is that half of all Americans who continue to smoke will die because of the habit. Each year more than 450,000 individuals in the U.S. die from illnesses related to cigarette smoking, making it responsible for one out of five deaths in this country.

If those numbers fail to impress, consider this: Cigarettes kill more Americans than do alcohol, illegal drugs, car accidents, suicide, homicide and AIDS combined.

Because cigarettes are deadly, millions of smokers in the United States resolve to stop smoking every new year, trying different methods. However, most of these people fail to stop smoking.

"Trying to stop cold turkey often causes unmanageable stress and withdrawal symptoms," says Bruce N. Eimer, a clinical psychologist, clinical hypnotist and hypnotherapist, who heads up the Hypnosis Help Center of Philadelphia. "Drug treatments have intolerable side effects for many people. Nicotine replacement therapies continue to put poison into your body. Many smokers try to stop many times, only to end up going back to the habit"

"I believe I have found a better way to help people stop smoking," says Dr. Eimer, whose clinical psychology practice for more than 20 years has been helping people unlearn the smoking habit and stop smoking using the tools of clinical hypnosis and behavior therapy. "Because smoking is a learned behavior, that is, a habit, it can be unlearned"

Tied to "The Eimer Method," the system is called "The Best Stop Smoking With Hypnosis Program," which includes two audio CDs with an accompanying 56-page workbook. The CDs contain Eimer's easy- to-understand instructions and suggestions that will guide you to stop your smoking habit for good with a minimum of stress and no withdrawal symptoms in most cases.

"Using hypnosis does not mean that you will be zapped into stopping or that you will not know what is going on," Dr. Eimer assures. "When you are in hypnosis, you are not asleep. You remain aware of everything that is going on, but your mind is more focused. Your suggestibility is heightened, but only to suggestions that are acceptable to you. Using my program, you will be very relaxed and receptive to helpful suggestions and instructions so that you can kick the smoking habit and become a non-smoker for good"

"The Best Stop Smoking With Hypnosis Program" -- a two CD set with personal workbook manual -- provides a simple and easy way to change smoking behavior to non-smoking behavior. This audio CD program is based on Dr. Eimer's highly successful clinical "Stop Smoking In One Visit With Hypnosis" approach.

Dr. Eimer's methods have the support of the medical and hypnotherapy communities. "This program will help you to get rid of the habit of smoking," says Moshe S. Torem, M.D., of Akron General Medical Center. "Listen to it and give it a chance to work for you. It is delivered by a well educated, experienced and talented psychologist"

"This single-session clinical smoking cessation program has approximately a 70-percent success rate in helping individuals stop smoking for a period of one year or more," Dr. Eimer says. "The percentage of success appears to be even greater with those patients who have started smoking again, but who have not yet resumed smoking the original number of cigarettes they had originally smoked, and who returned for a second visit. So, there's hope for those who feel that they have stumbled"
