Boston, Massachusetts - Human Factor International Executive Coach, Jeffrey Jones has just attended the McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School conference "Coaching: A New Horizon-Theory, Emerging Evidence & Practice". Jones joined contributors in the field and leading participants for an exploration of the theory, research, applications and practices of coaching psychology.

The conference focused on educating professionals and the public to the academic foundations of coaching psychology and the practical applications of positive psychology.

"This conference marks the beginning of an exciting international program that will bring rigorous study to the work of improving the lives of individuals through coaching and effective positive psychology interventions", said Carol Kaufmann, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School who together with Margaret Moore of Wellcoaches initiated the conference.

Philip Levendusky, PhD, ABPP, director of Psychology at McLean Hospital and associate professor at Harvard Medical School was quoted as saying, "This conference is groundbreaking in that it is the first coaching psychology conference to be developed by a major medical facility," he said. "Participants will learn from seminal thinkers, coaches and authors who have contributed to the foundation of coaching psychology in a variety of domains, including executive leadership and peak performance, life, health and wellness, applied positive psychology and coaching research"

Among the conference highlights, the energizing event featured a workshop led by Robert Kegan, PhD, world-renowned adult developmental psychologist, professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and educational chair of the Institute for Management and Leadership in Education; and the live coaching of a string quartet by internationally renowned conductor, teacher, and leadership speaker Benjamin Zander, co-author of the Harvard Business School Press book, "The Art of Possibility"

Jeffrey Jones, Human Factor International Executive Coach attended the event together with four fellow graduates of the Columbia University Coaching Certification Program. " Executive coaching that is based on research with a strong empirical base is the foundation for an evidence based practice. While clients are primarily concerned with results and not usually interested in research, I think that a research base provides coaches with a solid foundation that increases the effectiveness of their coaching" said Jones. "While every presentation in the conference provided valuable and relevant information, I felt that the research presented by Anthony Grant of the University of Sydney was particularly useful. Grant presented research showing the measurable outcomes of coaching and the beginnings of a methodology that could be used to accurately measure the ROI of a coaching engagement. While coaches and clients usually report that coaching is effective and successful intervention for improving performance, I think it is important to be able to quantify the results and move beyond anecdotal evidence", Jones added.

Continuing education credits were approved for ICF coaches participating in the conference.
