After hearing Barack Obama's speech from Denver on Thursday night, energy expert

Joe Shuster responds, " If Obama thinks he will end US dependence on foreign oil in ten years, he better include nuclear in his energy plan, specifically fast neutron reactors"

Shuster is a 50-year chemical engineer who founded/co-founded eight companies, many addressing diverse energy-related issues. Shuster says, "Both candidates have a 'Cap & Trade' scheme as one of the centerpieces of their energy programs. This is just another feel good program that won't be much help in getting the country to energy

independence"

In May of 1973 Shuster alerted the U.S. Congress to a pending energy crisis. The Oil Embargo followed within months. Now – 35 years later –the crisis continues.

Shuster is fearful is the fact that our leaders just don't get it and he is convinced they are incapable of offering a credible plan because they don't even understand the problem. "There is no sense of urgency coming out of Washington much less a plan," says Shuster. "Even after an acceptable plan is established, execution of the plan will be extremely difficult because of the sheer magnitude and complexity of such a program, not to mention the bureaucratic red tape. Prospects of success diminish daily as the country continues to muddle about with no direction. We need a man to the moon inspiration and commitment. Where is the leader to lead us?"

According to Shuster, the US needs to vigorously support a combination of solutions with nuclear energy (fast neutron reactors) being the inevitable foundation of any future energy system. He says, "Obama only says he will not take nuclear off the table. Unbelievably, he doesn't seem to know that nuclear is inevitable, the only energy source that can possibly support the world's growing population and economies. McCain's nuclear plan is encouraging but falls woefully short of adequate"
