Senator Chuck Allen lll Scholarship Fund Has Fundraiser at N Harlem

Cornelius Jones, of the Lion king, Smokey Joe's Café, and Flagboy and NYC Comptroller, the Hon. William Thompson, co-chair, along with Seth Andrew, headmaster and founder of charter school Democracy Prep in Harlem, will host Groove, Give and Get at chic n hot spot, N in Harlem on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, from 6-8pm to benefit the Senator Chuck Allen III Scholarship Fund. The evening will include a raffle, soul food tidbits and live d.j. Guests will shop, mingle and enjoy fun gift bags. N in Harlem, a popular boutique specializing in upscale clothing and products by top designers, is generously donating ten percent of all sales from the evening towards the scholarship fund. Tickets are $25 per person. N Harlem is located at 114 West 116th Street in New York City.

Chuck Allen III, a noted civic leader in New Haven, Ct., and later Harlem, NY, was an alderman, state senator and later special assistant to the Mayor in New Haven, Ct. He championed socially conscious urban development and renewal projects. Allen passed away in February 2008 after a four-year battle with kidney cancer. The scholarship was set up in March 2008 to preserve his civic legacy. His mantra was, "Doing something to help someone else is the reason we were all put here"

The scholarship will aid minority students studying law, accounting, public and urban policy and management.
