Ho, Ho, Ho! Botox For Christmas No Laughing Matter

This year, some of the most requested presents for the "in crowd" are (I bet you can't guess) . . . Botox® and Restlylane®. You're probably wondering why. Sally, a cosmetic surgery patient from Florida, answers, "Well, I could get something I hate, or something I need"

But there is danger in this sort of reasoning, warns the Ethical Cosmetic Surgery Association. "This is dangerous," says Dr. Barry Lycka, one of North America's foremost authorities in cosmetic surgery and the founder of the Ethical Cosmetic Surgery Association. "Not everyone can do Restylane® injections well, and not everyone is a candidate for injections," he adds. "Due diligence and caution should be the main object in choosing a cosmetic surgeon for a cosmetic procedure"

Also, Dr. Lycka notes, "Cosmetic surgery is a very personal decision. True informed consent must enter into every procedure. This is not possible with cosmetic surgery being given as a gift"

To help with this choice, the Ethical Cosmetic Surgery Association has published a step-by-step guide to choosing a cosmetic surgeon for your procedures and has an online listing of approved cosmetic surgeons, none of whom honor cosmetic surgery as a gift.
