Author and Marketing Expert Explains How Independent, Creative Professionals Could be Cheating Themselves by Pricing by the Hour
What's your time worth? The adage is "time is money," but when it comes to pricing creative services, what's the right price? Which is better: charge by the hour or by the project? The Jersey Shore Public Relations & Advertising Association (JSPRAA) will explore this topic with leading, small business marketing guru Ilise Benun during a networking and career development luncheon on Friday, May 2. The event is open to all creative and communications professionals, especially freelancers and independent public relations, advertising, design, writing and marketing consultants, both experienced and new.
Benun who is the founder of Marketing Mentor and co-author of her latest book, "Designer's Guide to Marketing and Pricing", will present effective ideas for making the business side of business stress-free. The luncheon will cover:
• What rates should be made of
• Talking money with clients
• How to get a client to reveal the budget before writing the proposal
• Why disclosing an hourly rate to clients is never a good thing
…and much more.
Benun is a national speaker and the author of several books including, "The Designer's Guide to Marketing and Pricing" (HOW Books 2008), "Stop Pushing Me Around: A Workplace Guide for the Timid, Shy and Less Assertive" (Career Press), "Public Relations for Dummies (2nd Edition)" (Wiley), "The Art of Self Promotion," (Marketing Mentor Press), "Self Promotion Online" and "Designing Websites:// for Every Audience" (HOW Design Books).
Benun is the founder of Marketing Mentor, a one-on-one coaching program through which she teaches creative professionals how to get the clients they want. Her work has been featured in national newspapers and magazines such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Toronto Globe and Mail, Inc. Magazine, Essence, Working Woman and many more.
The JSPRAA luncheon will be held on from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on May 2 at Branches Catering, West Long Branch. The cost is $30 for members/$40 for non-members. For more information or to register, visit www.jspraa.com.
