GREENVILLE, S.C. — Today's business schools are placing growing emphasis on corporate social responsibility in their curriculum, and not a moment too soon. In a year that's overseen a series of dispiriting headlines — from Bernie Madoff 150-year sentence, to British financier Allen Stanford's likely conviction, as well as the dramatic collapse of major financial institutions such as AIG and Lehman Brothers —stories like these boil down to one thing: unintelligent choices. Chuck Gallagher knows all about unintelligent choices. Having effected a Ponzi scheme in the 1980s, the consequence was federal prison in the 1990s. Upon release Gallagher realized that if bad choices yield bad results, positive choices should yield equally positive results. This former convicted felon went on to become senior vice president of sales and marketing at a publicly-traded company — in a Sarbanes-Oxley environment. On Thursday, Oct. 27, 2009, Gallagher will share his story of redemption — and the role corporate social responsibility can play in today's business world — when he kicks off Queens University's "Corporate Social Responsibility Weekend" Gallagher's presentation, "Choices: Negative Consequences — Positive Results," outlines the consequences of choices, and how an otherwise intelligent person can be led astray. "By outlining what takes place in someone's mind, that helps students know what to look for, how to recognize possible red flags, and the steps to take to avoid questionable business behavior," says Gallagher. "For future thriving entrepreneurs and business leaders," he adds, "it's essential they understand responsibility goes beyond creation of profit … especially now, during one of the most dramatic recessions in US history, that's a lesson worth reflecting on" ABOUT Chuck Gallagher is a business ethics and white collar crime speaker who has been a sales executive in a public company. He has led a $40-plus million sales region with 125 representatives and started his own training business with projects in 30 states. Every choice has a consequence!
