(October 28, 2009) Columbia Coaching Alliance concluded the latest roundtable discussion entitled "New York Executive Coaching Roundtable" on Thursday, October 1st, 2009 at Bar Americain in Manhattan. The event took place in advance of upcoming 2009 Roundtables scheduled for San Francisco, Bermuda, Atlanta and Orlando.

The conversation focused on the value of coaching's practical applications in the legal profession, and return on investment (ROI) of executive coaching services - a once grey area that has increasingly quantifiable and reliable metrics.

New York Roundtable hosts included Columbia Coaching Alliance members: Rossanna Figuera, Executive Coach and Founder & CEO of The Talent Circle; Sally Harrison, Executive Coach and Principal & Senior Consultant at Brandywine Management Group; Jeffrey Jones, Executive and Transcultural Leadership Coach and Managing Director of Human Factor International. Terry Maltbia, Director, Corporate Learning Solutions Group at Columbia University Teachers College joined the discussion as a guest.

Roundtable guest and attorney Rocco D'Agostino remarked that, "Coaching creates an environment where the ability to listen and see the larger picture enables greater transparency of complex issues. The legal profession is necessarily focused on details, so it's easy to get sidetracked by minor concerns." Terry Maltbia of Columbia University posited, "The roundtable in New York provided a unique opportunity to engage in dialogue with coaches and members from the legal profession to explore ways that laser coaching approaches can assist lawyers respond to major shifts occurring in their environment such as the increase use of legal services being delivered electronically, the commoditization of a number of core services, the emergence of the "virtual law firm," and inter-jurisdictional representation, to name of few. I walked away with the sense that focused coaching could support those operating in this changing landscape in a productive manner to take advantage of a full range of new opportunities." Columbia Coaching Alliance member Sally Harrison added, "The New York Roundtable was a great venue for discussions on both the ROI of coaching, and the effective integration of cutting-edge research and best-practices being developed at Columbia University." Jeffrey Jones summed up the New York Roundtable findings saying, "Within the high stakes legal profession, coaching can deliver a significant advantage in practice building, and in the courtroom where leadership capability is what the client is counting on."

The Global Coaching Roundtable was launched by Human Factor International in December 2008. The first roundtable took place in Shanghai at 3 on the Bund with a diverse group of Executives, Entrepreneurs, and HFI Clients. The mission of the initiative is to stimulate a global conversation on coaching and leadership development from a wide and diverse range of viewpoints. The culmination will be the publication of an article sharing the global conversation with the coaching and business communities.
