Brendan, a premiere escorted and independent travel provider based in Los Angeles and in business for over 40 years, is in the process of donating over 4,000 travel bags to the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation, which benefits needy children, for their current holiday toy giveaway campaign in Southern California. This nationwide organization distributes millions of toys to needy children of all ages throughout the country, and the thousands of Marine sergeants, of all grades, that administer the programs deserve praise for their hard work. Brendan is sending bags to Marines Toys for Tots offices in San Diego, Twentynine Palms, Pasadena, Orange County and Seal Beach.

In this tough economic climate, making a needy children's holiday season more joyous has taken on added importance for the Marines Toys for Tots and their various corporate partners, which includes Toys-R-Us, Scholastic Books, Hasbro, the Walt Disney Company and UPS, just to name a few. Each branch receiving the Brendan Travel Bags, pictured above, will be using them in different ways; for example Pasadena, which distributes in the Pasadena area, throughout West Los Angeles and in the San Fernando Valley, is going to use the bags as a gift for teenagers; in Orange County two toys will be placed in a bag and given to younger children.

Toys for Tots began in 1947, when Major Bill Hendricks, USCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The idea came form Bill's wife, Diane. In the fall of 1947, Diane crafted a homemade doll and asked Bill to deliver the doll to an organization, which would give it to a needy child at Christmas. When Bill determined that no agency existed, Diane told Bill that he should start one. He did. The 1947 pilot project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign.

Here is their official Mission Statement:

The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to assist the U. S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas. This assistance includes supporting the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program by raising funds to provide toys to supplement the collections of local Toys for Tots campaigns, to provide promotional and support material and defray the costs of conducting annual Toys for Tots campaigns. Other Foundation support includes providing administrative, advisory, financial, logistic and promotional support to local Toys for Tots Coordinators; managing funds raised and monies donated based on the use of Toys for Tots name or logo; providing other support the Marine Corps, as a federal agency, cannot provide; and conducting public education and information programs about Toys for Tots that call the general public to action in support of this patriotic community action program.

Don Cooper
, President of Brendan, is very pleased that Brendan is involved with a worthy organization like Marines Toys for Tots. "When one talks about finding a way to make sure the end use recipients get the charity donated, there is no better outfit than the Marines Toys for Tots. All of us at Brendan hope this will somehow make needy children a little happier during what should be a joyous season," Cooper says. "Plus these sturdy Brendan travel bags can be used as book bags, tjo stow and haul sports gear, art equipment or tools. We hope they find good use"

Over the last year Brendan has been involved in a number of interesting charity events. Beginning in June with a donation of 500 travel bags to the Cystic Fibrosis Golf Classic, hosted by Los Angeles Kings hockey announcer Jim Fox and Dave Taylor. The first firefighters golf tournament, held on September 14 at Hesperia Golf Club, benefited the San Bernardino Firefighters Association, which helps their members, Burn Survivors and their families. Visit their website at http://www.sbcoffa.com or http://www.firefightersquest.org to see their activities or to donate.

The second, on September 26, was held at the beautiful SCGA Golf Course in Murietta and raised money for the Murietta Firefighters and the Inland Empire Burn Institute. On June 19, 2009 the Murietta Fire Station 1 was designated Captain Matt Moore Memorial Fire Station, this done following Moore's on-duty death on March 10, 2008. To learn more about the Murietta Firefighters and their various charity events, or to donate to their organization, go to http://www.mfa3540.org.

Over 200 Brendan travel bags were given to the The 11th Annual Wendie Jo Sperber Golf Tournament, held on October 5 at the Woodland Hills Country Club. This tournament raised money for the weSPARK Cancer Support Center, which is a special place dedicated to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients and their families and friends. Sperber, a successful actress, passed away in 2005 after a long battle with cancer. A fantastic organization, weSPARK provides, free of charge, a center where one can join with others to share their experience, strength and hope.

On October 1, Brendan gave 150 bags to the Century 21 Realty 18th Annual Easter Seals Golf Classic, which was held at Indian Hills Golf Course in Riverside. The Easter Seals, one of the finest charity organizations in existence, has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 90 years. Brendan donated 750 bags to the The Rescue Train animal rescue organization for the annual fund raiser, Race for the Rescues, held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, for more about them go to http://www.racefortherescues.org

Brendan travel bags have also been given out, through the Book Publicists of Southern California, at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the West Hollywood Book Fair and the Duarte Book Fair. Brendan is scheduled to donate 800 travel bags to CALM, which stands for Child Abuse Listening and Meditation, for their author's luncheon in Santa Barbara in March 2010. Also on tap is the California Sports Hall of Fame Golf Classic at Industry Hills Golf Club, hosted by ex-NFL running back Christian Okoye.
