ASTRO welcomes health policy assistant director, research health analyst

Fairfax, Va., March 15, 2010 – The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has hired an assistant director of health policy and a research health analyst, adding to the vast talent in its Research and Health Policy departments.

Sheila Madhani joins ASTRO's Health Policy Department as assistant director. She comes to ASTRO from Holland and Knight LLC in Washington where she was senior public affairs adviser. She has also held positions at the Burgress Group in Alexandria, Va., and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Institute of Medicine, both in Washington. Madhani received her bachelor's degree in political science and her master's degree in social service administration from the University of Chicago. She also received her Master in Public Health from The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. At ASTRO, Madhani will be responsible for managing ASTRO's activities on the CPT Editorial Panel; she will also handle RUC activities, draft comment letters and analyze regulations related to physician payment.

Anushree Vichare has been hired as a research health analyst in ASTRO's Research Department. Prior to joining ASTRO, Vichare worked at the Virginia Department of Health as an HIV/AIDS quality assurance epidemiologist where she conducted quality assurance of the HIV/AIDS surveillance data for the state of Virginia among other HIV/AIDS related projects. She has also held positions at the National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health in Mumbai, India, and at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing. Vichare holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from M.G.M. Medical College in Mumbai, India, and a Master in Public Health with a focus on epidemiology from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. At ASTRO she will be responsible for assisting in the development of clinical practice guidelines and using epidemiology research methods in the design and implementation of various research projects.
