The Caring Generation® Radio Caregiving in the Sandwich Generation

Golden CO- Caregiving expert, Pamela D. Wilson hosts The Caring Generation radio program for caregivers and aging adults this coming Wednesday, October 23, on the Bold Brave Media Global Network. The program airs live at 9 p.m. EST. The Caring Generation® originally aired from 2009 to 2011 on 630 KHOW-AM in Denver, Colorado.

The caregiving topic for this week's program is Caregiving in the Sandwich Generation: Caring for Aging Parents and Children. Special guest Gina Gardiner is an international coach focusing on human potential. On this show, she talks about Overcoming Obstacles after her life was changed by a tragic skiing accident at the age of 28.

Being in the sandwich generation means caring for elderly parents and children. Caring for elderly parents involves all aspects of life. Managing time, providing financial support, balancing career, caring for family, supporting marital relationships, and even moving an elderly parent into the home.

Sandwiched adult children caregivers for elderly parents are more sensitive to how the caregiving role and responsibilities affect all aspects of life. Many want to avoid placing their children in this role – or at a minimum to prepare children for the possibility of being a caregiver. Being in the sandwich generation caring for elderly parents and children presents a unique opportunity to have generational discussions about caregiving that can be extremely beneficial.

In most families, the role and responsibilities of caregiving are shielded from children who may have already moved out of the home and are living on their own. There may be some knowledge that mom or dad are helping grandma or grandpa, but the exposure is limited. A lack of family discussion is the reason that some adult children are shocked when caregiving becomes a role and a responsibility.

No doubt being in the sandwich generation, caring for elderly parents and children is stressful all the way around. Join Pamela D. Wilson, caregiving expert for a fascinating look into the lives of family caregivers, including recommendations about achieving a work-life- caregiving balance.

Each week, Caring Generation® radio features a special guest. On October 23, special guest Gina Gardiner an author, motivational speaker, empowerment, and relationships coach joins the program. After a tragic ski accident at the age of 28, she ran an award-winning school as a principal in England from a wheelchair.

Gardiner views this life experience as a gift that helped her develop a unique approach to life and the development of leadership skills. She shares the idea of Overcoming Obstacles, relevant to all life situations but especially to the experiences of the caregiver in the sandwich generation.

Joining The Caring Generation® radio program is a way everyone to become comfortable talking and laughing about aging, health, caregiving, and everything in between. There are many things to learn about life and being a caregiver.  Pamela's approach to caregiving is authentic and light-hearted. She believes that serious subjects benefit from humor and laughter.
