Citizen KaneOn Thursday, October 13 in the Washington, D.C. area and on Tuesday, October 18 in Albuquerque, Gail Rubin, CT, detours from death education to offer two presentations using movies to provide insights into the development of the news media in the 20th century and its impact on presidential elections.

Long before becoming a pioneering death educator using humor and funny films to break the ice about discussing end-of-life issues, Gail Rubin's first job out of college was as a producer at C-SPAN, the Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network. Her five years with C-SPAN could have been the equivalent of getting a political science degree on the job.

In these fascinating talks, Gail brings together her background as a producer covering politics and her license to use film clips in public presentations. She traces the development of communications media and its effects on politics, as depicted in movies.

NetworkThe 1976 film Network predicted the rise of reality television and the populist chant, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!" Gail's film-clip illustrated talk explores how art imitates life and vice versa regarding the media and the 2016 presidential election. Watch the introductory film clip collection below.
