Los Angeles, CA - September 20, 2016 - More states will approve short term care insurance options that will enable their residents to plan for the very real risk of needing long-term care services.

"Short term care insurance is an increasingly viable option for consumers especially when age, cost or their health precludes them from obtaining traditional long-term care insurance coverage," states Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance.  Slome was preparing to deliver comments at the national Long-Term Care Insurance conference which begins today in New Orleans, LA.

Sales of short-term care insurance policies increased almost 20 percent in 2015, compared to the prior year according to research released by the National Advisory Center for Short-Term Care Information.  "If you want people to plan and avoid becoming dependent on states for their care needs, you have to offer them an option that's affordable and short-term care insurance is just that, affordable," Slome adds.  "More states will realize their citizens want affordable options and will be approving quality policies from quality insurers."

The national long-term care insurance expert shared that some 41 percent of long-term care insurance claims lasted one year or less.  "For many people, short-term care insurance is going to provide all the coverage they'll need," Slome noted.  "Some protection is always going to be better than none.  It's better for the individual and their family.  It's also better for taxpayers who otherwise will find themselves footing the bill for millions of aging Americans."
