The National Automobile Dealers Association, founded in 1917 represents 17,000 new-car and-truck dealers with 37,500 separate franchises, both domestic and international. NADA represents dealers on Capitol Hill, to automobile manufacturers and to the public. The association offers a variety of products and services, including educational training, to help dealers improve their business. Auto retailing is the largest retail sector of the U.S. economy. New car dealers employ about one million people-more than the Big Three automakers combined. In recent years, more than 16 million new cars and light trucks have been sold annually, with a retail value of more than $700,000 billion.
NADA conducts research and maintains an extensive database on the retail automobile industry, including sales and profit statistics, analysis of industry trends and economic forecasts.
