Attract the Right Job or Clientele:  Do You Think Different?

Years ago, the campaign slogan for Apple Computer was “Think Different”. Steve Jobs, and those in his employ, certainly did ‘think different’ and the results are stunning.

The fear of being different translates into a dilemma for forward thinking both in one’s career and business. Most people want to “fit in” and be like everyone else to avoid criticism or worse. The downside to fitting in is that one is never fully able to express who they really are and what they believe. Ultimately, there is a vast lack of fulfillment hiding in the shadows.

My Story

Looking back, my sales success was due to thinking differently from most other salespeople. I never memorized a script, or even conducted the sales cycle the same as everyone else. Why? For me, I needed to get to know the person first in order to understand how best to serve the person in front of me. It wasn’t until years later that I learned behaving true to self is referred to as one’s personal brand. Mine became “breath of fresh air”.

Know precisely how you ‘think different’ to stand up to critique and advance forward

Critique

Think about all of the ideas you had that were deemed to be near impossible. Those are the ones to seriously contemplate. If you are driven enough to make it happen then pull out all the stops to get going. Education and experimentation are usually the keys to finding the improved solution.

Influence Circle

Instead of surrounding yourself with people who do not understand your work or who have no interest, change your circle of influence. In turn, the influence from them will be more positive, insightful and energizing. Extract all of this to set milestones and goals to hit the mark for your fondest vision.

Your Story

Begin crafting why you thought of the idea in front of you. Include why you believe it to be important and how it may benefit others. Not only is this the basis for making sales, but it is also the basis for creating a strong personal brand and branding / marketing program.

As the idea materializes more fully, you may well see complementary areas to develop a more robust program. Check in with your Influence Circle for their ideas too. You just might find some type of partnership. All together the reach will extend to new and larger audiences thereby greatly increasing the odds for success.

By ‘thinking different’ you will be more likely to enjoy the Smooth Sale!
