July 7, 2015, Los Angeles, CA -   A significant number of individuals who can not health qualify for or afford traditional long term care insurance have a viable option today according to the head of the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance.

"Anywhere from 25-to-40 percent of people who take the time to apply for long term care insurance are declined coverage for health reasons," reports Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance (AALTCI).  The organization recently established the National Advisory Center for Short Term Care Information as part of the organization's consumer awareness efforts.

"Today, there are quality insurance policies from leading insurance carriers that offer very viable options," Slome notes.    "Our goal is to make more insurance professionals aware of these products as they can provide very affordable benefits to millions of consumers."

The Association launched an online feature where real examples of how agents successfully helped their clients can be shared.  "Our first example involves a 70-year-old woman with early onset dementia," Slome shares.  "She would clearly not qualify for traditional long term care insurance but a short term home care insurance policy does not have the same health underwriting."

Short term care insurance policies, also often referred to as recovery care policies, can fit the bill for many seniors concerned about their long term care planning.  "Maybe they waited too long and their health won't meet required standards or they looked at a policy and decided the price was too high," Slome adds.  "A short term care policy costs anywhere from $30 to $50 a month and can provide all the coverage an individual needs."
