A two-minute animated consumer video explaining the benefits offered by having short-term care insurance coverage has just been posted by the National Advisory Center for Short-Term Care Information.

"Few consumers have ever heard about short-term care insurance which is a very viable form of protection for those seeking affordable long-term care planning or to fill gaps in their Medicare coverage," explains Jesse Slome, director of the National Advisory Center.

Short-term care insurance products generally provide benefits that may be similar to traditional long-term care insurance only for a time period of up to 360 days.  "For many people that's all the coverage they'll need," Slome notes.  According to the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance's 2016 analysis, some 41 percent of long-term care insurance claims last one year or less.

"This is the first of two animated videos we will be producing this year," Slome shared.  Slome acknowledged that support for the consumer awareness efforts undertaken by the Center came from seven leading short-term care insurers.  "We could not undertake this effort without their commitment to create heightened consumer awareness."
