Dear Family & Friends,

So, it seems as if the Likud government now has a secure coalition with Avigdor Liberman as Defense Minister & his 6 mandates joining. No longer are there outstanding open or secret negotiations with Isaac (Bugie) Herzog who demanded a very long list of impossible-to-grant portfolios & ministries & control over peace negotiations & veto power over settlements, etc. ad nauseum.

My opinion: Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu let Herzog keep spinning his own trap & let him fall into it. Liberman was ready & willing to be a responsible adult; Bibi asked; Avigdor agreed within a day. The government is now knit solid & ready to take care of business.

Note that in the same time/space, the Natural Gas Framework was solidified with the clause on security now accepted. Very reassuring news for the economy & energy security.

Enjoy the silvery almost full moon & a sweet night; a swell day & a fine Shabbat!

All the very best, Gail/Geula/Savta/Savta Raba x 2/ Mom

The new government will not be qualitatively different from its predecessor and except for a change of style, it will be more of the same.

Published: Thursday, May 19, 2016 9:25 PM

1 Moshe Feiglin, former MK and Speaker of the Knesset, is head of the Zehut party, dedicated to providing Israel with authentic Jewish leadership. The party’s goals are based on Jewish identity and liberty. It strives to imbue every facet of Israeli life with the meaning of Jewish destiny.

The best thing that has resulted from the political storm churning through Israel is the ouster of current Defense Minister Bogie Ya’alon. That was not Netanyahu’s original intent, in my opinion. He wanted to bring the Left into the government, and it is a good thing that Labor MK Shelly Yechimovitz prevented that from happening. My assessment is that the new government will not be qualitatively different from its predecessor and except for a change of style, it will be more of the same. But all of that is behind us now. The most important thing is that Ya’alon was ousted. We can only hope that it is not too late.

Bogie Ya’alon, trumpeted as the new savior by the Right & settlers, turned out to be (surprise, surprise) a strategic disaster for Israel’s security-no less than that-for the state of its democracy and liberty. I believe Ehud Barak’s testimony that Ya’alon was the man who tipped the scales against an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Such an attack-even if it had failed to achieve its tactical goal – would have restored Israel’s strategic stance according to which the State of Israel was not established to once again rely on US or British pilots. Even if an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities had failed, it would have made it crystal clear that Israel’s strategy is based on the adage of our Sages, “If someone rises to kill you, kill him first”-whether the attacker is a powerful country overseas or a knife-wielding terrorist in Hevron. But Ya’alon preferred the strategy of containment upon which he was raised in his youth on a Leftist kibbutz. He upgraded Iran’s world status & opened the door for its great victory over Israel.

Two years ago, during Operation Protective Edge, Ya’alon led the strategy of containment of the Hamas. The political-security echelon, headed by Ya’alon, emitted confused orders, laden with concepts that included everything – except victory. The result was that after almost two months of goal-less fighting, the IDF had suffered 70 casualties in the tunnels and alleyways of Gaza, left two bodies of Israeli soldiers behind – and retreated. Bugy Ya’alon is leaving behind an army that has become the most sophisticated junkyard of modern arms and advanced technology that exists. He leaves behind the largest, strongest and most inflated army that Israel has ever seen. But it is an army that is incapable of winning any battle. Except for the real battle that Ya’alon introduced: the battle against the settlers.

Under the instruction and with the encouragement of Ya’alon, a new stage in Israel’s history has unfolded. Under pressure from the media and the Left, tens of minors were arrested and severely tortured for no reason other than to keep the Left happy with Bogy. The absolute majority of the youth were released without an indictment – but they did suffer serious emotional damage that will likely haunt them the rest of their lives. (Apparently, the house in Duma was burned by the Arab locals, as was the case before and after the event in question).

But worst of all was Ya’alon’s participation in the quiet ‘trend’ of the military coup that was beginning to take form in Israel.

The shooting of the terrorist in Hevron presented Israeli society with a choice between two approaches: The Jewish perspective, according to which the elimination of a terrorist willing to die in order to murder Jews is ethical and imperative – and the European approach, lacking morality, seamlessly equating between good and evil: The type of approach that turns Nazis into victims and the Jews into the new Nazis.

The upper echelons of the IDF, educated and advanced over the years on the basis of loyalty to these ideas, suddenly became the great hope of the Left. The soldier from Hevron was turned into a national enemy. The Chief of Staff explained that “If someone rises to kill you, kill him first” is not the IDF’s strategy. The Deputy Chief of Staff equated those who subscribe to that value with Nazis. The radical Left Ha’aretz newspaper rather openly called for a military coup & the Defense Minister, Moshe Bogey Ya’alon, backed up & encouraged this entire process on every stage and & at every ceremony.

I have no great expectations of Lieberman. Rightist ideology and power bereft of clear purpose always becomes a double-edged sword. It would behoove us all to remember former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who was no less rightist and forceful than Lieberman. But we are not sorry that Ya’alon has left the Defense Ministry.

2.Texas to ignore Iran nuclear deal and maintain sanctions, governor says By Danielle Ziri JPost.com 05/17/2016 00:33

Iran deal is implemented as world drops sanctions

Trump on foreign policy: Iran deal allowed it to become a ‘great power’ at Israel’s expense

The Texas Governor formally responded on Monday to a letter sent out by President Barack Obama on April 8th requesting that Texas “review” its economic sanctions against Iran.

NEW YORK – Texas will not lift its sanctions on Iran and will take no part in the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with the Islamic republic, which has made the world a “more dangerous and compromised” place, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told Jewish media at a meeting in New York on Monday afternoon.
The governor formally responded on Monday to a letter by President Barack Obama on April 8 requesting that Texas “review” its economic sanctions against Iran as part of the deal concluded last year.
In his response to the president, Abbott wrote: “Because the Iran deal is fundamentally flawed & does not permanently dismantle Iran’s nuclear capability, Texas will maintain its sanctions against Iran. “Further, because your administration has recklessly and unilaterally removed critical sanctions, I have called on the Texas Legislature to strengthen the Iran sanctions that Texas already has in place,” he added.
Abbott, who recently visited Israel, told Jewish media he is “deeply disturbed” by the nuclear deal and views it as “a potential existential threat to Israel and frankly to nations across the globe.”
“It makes no sense to me why the United States would be an accomplice to arming and aiding economically a nation that to this day seems to be devoted to terrorism,” he said at the meeting.

Referring to Iran’s recent test launch of ballistic missiles, some of which reportedly had the message “Israel must be wiped off the face of the earth” written on them, Abbott said: “If that is not a message that the world should comprehend and understand the magnitude of, then the world needs to wake up. Israel has no stronger ally in the United States than the State of Texas,” he added.
[Gail Sez: BTW, IF the States of America were actually countries, Texas would be the Twelvth largest nation by its economy in the whole world according to its GDP!]
Challenging Obama’s request, Abbott said that the entities in the state of Texas that have been participating in divestment from Iran will continue to do so.
These entities, he explained, primarily include multi-billion dollar retirement investment funds.
Further strengthening Texan divestment, Abbott assured, will have significant economic and symbolic impact on Iran. According to the Texas Comptroller’s 2014 estimates
, if Texas were a nation, its economy would rank 12th largest in the world according to its GDP.
“This is an economic commitment as powerful as that of Australia or almost Canada,” he said. “Texas is going to take the lead in sending the message to the international community that we stand with Israel.”
When asked by The Jerusalem Post whether he supports the presumptive Republican nominee for the presidency, he said: “Candidly, I don’t know Donald Trump and I don’t know what his positions are, but I do know… Hillary [Clinton] will be catastrophic to the United States of America,” he said.
The governor added he is “perplexed” about the Jewish community, which usually aligns with the Democratic Party.
“After seeing eight years of the Obama administration and the damage caused by the Obama administration to Israel and the Israel-US alliance, I don’t understand how anyone who cares about Israel can support a Democrat,” he stated.

The status of Palestine was to be determined at a later stage, with the Zionist factor specifically to be taken into consideration.

3

PEOPLE HOLD up peace signs. But who wants peace more – Israel or the Palestinians?. (photo credit:REUTERS)

November 2, 1917, the date of the Balfour Declaration, and November 29, 1947, the date of the UN resolution on the partitioning of Palestine, are generally recognized milestones on the path toward Israeli statehood – but arguably, another date could be added to the above, namely May 16, 1916, 100 years ago this week, the day on which two European diplomats, Britain’s Sir Mark Sykes and France’s Francois George-Picot, reached a “secret” agreement for carving up many of the lands then under the rule of the Ottoman Empire into British and French spheres of influence and domination once the war against Turkey was won.
Originally, Imperial Russia had also been part of the secret talks leading up to the agreement, and it and Britain had reached an agreement which would have handed to the former parts of Turkey itself, including its capital Constantinople and control of the strategically important Dardenelles – but after the Russian revolution and Russia leaving the war, nothing more was heard of this.
But what should interest us as Israelis is that the accord, entering history as the “Sykes-Picot Agreement,” also predetermined the general borders of Mandatory Palestine, and in consequence also, at least in part, those of the State of Israel – as well as politically and materially contributing to the realization of the Zionist vision.

The principal purpose of the agreement and the strategic considerations behind it were, of course, geopolitical, related to Middle Eastern oil and with regard to Britain also securing the passage to India, the crown jewel of the British Empire, while France intended to obtain for itself control of Syria including the predominantly Christian parts later to become modern-day Lebanon – but other factors, such as Arab nationalism and several particular interests, also came into play.
Arab leaders, such as the Hashemites, threw in their lot with the British in order to gain domination over most of the Arab lands to be taken after the war from the Turks, but as their contribution to the war effort was practically nil (and the Hashemites had in the meantime anyway been turned out of the Arabian peninsula by the Saudis), the promises made to them by the Allied powers were largely ignored after the war.
While France was to establish its rule, not always successfully in retrospect, over Syria – the parts which later became Iraq, Kuwait and Transjordan were assigned to Britain.

The status of Palestine was to be determined at a later stage, with the Zionist factor specifically to be taken into consideration.
And that’s where Mark Sykes’ role comes into play: Sykes was one of those committed British Christian Zionists who saw in the reestablishment of a national home for the Jewish people in its ancient homeland a moral and historical obligation – a sentiment shared at the time by another British Zionist, Winston Churchill, who in 1949, criticizing the anti-Semitic Ernest Bevin’s adamant refusal to recognize the new State of Israel (yes, there were anti-Semites in the British Labour Party then, too – though to countervail this there were also many friends of the Jewish people and Zionism like Richard Crossman and many others) declared in the house of Commons: Israel’s statehood marked “an event in world history to be viewed in the perspective, not of a generation or a century, but in the perspective of a thousand, two thousand or even three thousand years.”
Needless to say that Sykes, in addition to his moral and historical leanings, was also motivated by his belief that Jews, especially in America (which had not yet entered the war) could make an important political contribution to victory over Germany and its allies, as well as by the expectation that once the war was won, the Jewish presence in Palestine would act as a natural mainstay of British interests in the region. This indeed was also the position of the Zionist movement led by Chaim Weizmann – and Sykes’ attitude had a significant impact on the Balfour Declaration one year later (though Sykes, by then, had died).
The original Sykes-Picot agreement was reconfirmed at the 1920 San-Remo Conference, incorporating on Britain’s insistence the Balfour Declaration – without, however, drawing final borders, including those between the Galilee and the Golan. The Zionist movement had laid claim to all the land up to the Litani river, now in Lebanon, and to the sources of the river Jordan, but while the border of Palestine was eventually extended northward, mainly as a result of the Jewish settlements in what is now called the “Galilee salient,” the Litani river, most of the Golan, excluding the eastern shore of the Sea of Galilee and the Banias river, remained French and later Syrian or Lebanese – until the Six Day War in 1967.
On the downside, it must be admitted that in creating the artificial states of Iraq, Syria and to some extent, Jordan, the Sykes-Picot agreement can also be blamed for the present mayhem in the Middle East and in consequence, many of the dangers facing Europe and the rest of the world today.

4.Arlene Kushner “Reaching, Always” for the good, and for strength. Frequently a tough task. But…Wow! May 18, 2016

I begin today with a moving “only in Israel” story. I had written in my last posting about the way in which comrades of a fallen soldier maintain an ongoing connection with his family. I subsequently received an email from a reader – Marsha Greenberg Motzen, wife of Cantor Yaakov Motzen – who told me about her husband’s brother, Avraham Chaim Motzen, who fell in the Lebanon War in 1982. In the thirty four years since, comrades from his unit have been going to his mother’s apartment every three weeks to learn mishnayot (the earliest section of the Talmud, rabbinic commentaries on the Torah) in his memory. His mother, who is now 90, bakes for them before they come. If that is not devotion, I do not know what is. For those not familiar with the tradition: studying religious text in someone’s memory is done for the merit or elevation of the soul of the departed.

The Israel Prize – Israel’s highest honor – was awarded to 11 citizens for outstanding merit in their respective fields last Thursday evening, in Jerusalem. Here I want to mention one recipient – Maj. Gen. (res.) Doron Almog – because he is a sterling example of the determination to turn heartache into blessing. Wrote UnitedwithIsrael: “Doron Almog is an Israeli military hero who participated in some of the most daring operations, including the secret airlift of 6,000 Jews from Ethiopia in the 1980s and as a leading commander in the Entebbe rescue operation of 1976, when 100 IDF commandos rescued 102 hostages held by terrorists in Uganda….

“Yet what Almog, 63, considered his greatest achievement was caring for his severely disabled son Eran, who passed away in 2007 at the age of 23…

“More than a decade ago, Almog left his brilliant army career to found a new Aleh center in southern Israel for young adults – Aleh Negev, a rehabilitative village that provides severely disabled young men and women the opportunity to live a rich and productive life within a safe environment. [Aleh runs a number of rehabilitative facilities for hundreds of children with cognitive and physical difficulties.]

“’Eran, my beloved son, who never called me Abba [Hebrew for Dad] and never made eye contact with me, was the greatest teacher of my life,’ Almog stated at the ceremony marking the foundation of the new center… ‘He taught me the meaning of unconditional love. He taught me to hear the soundless cries of the hundreds of children like him. He taught me that the focus of our actions should not be the glorification of one’s ego. Rather, we should be focused on helping people like him.’” (emphasis added) http://unitedwithisrael.org/faces-of-israel-doron-almog-idf-hero-dedicated-to-helping-the-weakest-members-of-society/

In 2002, two illegal Arab houses were built in the Jerusalem Walls National Park, inside the historic Ir David (City of David). Yesterday, they were taken down by the Jerusalem district police and the Israel Parks Authority.

And so, I count this as good news, even as I say, What the hell took so long? It’s a rhetorical question. What took so long is all of the Left-wing and international pressure to leave the houses alone. So, yes, in spite of an incredible 14 year delay, this is good news – and perhaps doubly so because the authorities seem to have discovered their backbones.

Just one day earlier, on Monday, seven illegal Arab portable housing structures were dismantled in E1, the area between Jerusalem and the community of Ma’aleh Adumim.

7

Credit: Jewish Virtual Library

Because this is in Area C, it was the Civil Administration (which works under the Ministry of Defense) that did the dismantling.

8

Credit: COGAT spokesperson

The structures were standing only a matter of days. This is a strategic area where there is a quick response, for the illegal housing, promoted and supported by the EU, is intended to prevent contiguity between Ma’aleh Adumim and Jerusalem, and foster contiguity between Arab areas to the south and the north – with an eye to an eventual Palestinian state. Israeli housing is scheduled to be built in the area, if ever there is sufficient courage to proceed with these plans in spite of the international outcry that would ensue.

It is not always the case, regrettably, that the Civil Administration responds with alacrity when EU funded illegal buildings are constructed in Area C outside of an area as highly contested as E1. The EU is a tough adversary, claiming “diplomatic immunity” with regard to legal action, and I take off my hat to the NGO Regavim, which does much to fight that good fight in the courts. See: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/208201#.VzrfSpBf3IU

And speaking of the EU…

EU Ambassador to Israel, Lars Faabourg-Anderson, is prone to making statements about the illegality of “settlements” in Judea and Samaria, although I have yet to see him back up these statements with solid legal arguments. The Legal Grounds Campaign, weary of his stance, invited him to debate international law professor Eugene Kontorovich on the issue of Israel’s legal rights in Judea and Samaria. Actually, we invited him four times – via fax, snail mail, email and hand-delivery to his office. After a silence of almost a month, he declined to debate.

It reinforces my conviction that the Israeli populace is moving Right and becoming more nationalist in perspective.

This is what Aaron Lerner, director of IMRA, had to say on this issue a week ago: “The truth is that there are indeed hard choices to make. “This when the correct choices may result in pressure from the world.

“Fortunately, the citizens of Israel have a strong backbone. “A determination and willingness to endure challenges. And this is a critical asset. “Because it strips our leaders from excuses. “The citizens of Israel are ready. “It’s now up to the leaders to stop kicking the can.”

http://imra.org.il/story.php3?id=70587

The not-so-good news, of course, is that the leaders are very skilled at kicking the can (a metaphor for deferring conclusive action by resorting to a short-term, stopgap solution).

Last Friday, top Hezbollah commander Mustafa Badreddine was killed in an explosive attack in Syria. Badreddine was brother-in-law of Imad Mughniyeh, who was assassinated by Israel in 2008. As chief expert on explosives and the military commander responsible for Hezbollah’s operations in Syria, he was considered Mughniyeh’s successor. His death represents a big blow to Hezbollah.

At first it was reported by Lebanese press (Israeli press will not write about this directly) that the assassination was Israel’s doing. Then it was said to be the work of a Syrian rebel group (which does not definitively mean it was not Israel – but I cannot speak to this).

Now a Saudi paper reports that Imad Mughniyeh’s eldest son, Mustafa Mughniyeh, who had been a protégé of his uncle Badreddine, will succeed him. He has been kept totally out of the public limelight.

http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4804040,00.html

Jihad, another son of Imad, was also assassinated at an earlier time. Sort of a family tradition, we might say.

Information has now been released about the interrogation last month by the Shin Bet of a Gaza fisherman (if indeed he really was a fisherman at all), who had strayed (? or deliberately moved) out of the zone permitted for fishing by the Israeli naval blockade.

When questioned, the fisherman, 39, ended up providing a wealth of important information on the smuggling – by fisherman, with the assistance of Hamas – of weapons, ammunition, rocket-making equipment and other military equipment via sea into Gaza, for use by Hamas and other terrorist organizations. Even liquid fiberglass, a key ingredient in rocket production, is being brought in by sea.

This situation represents just the sort of quandary that Israeli politicians and security personnel must wrestle with. Calls for lifting of the naval blockade are met with a firm refusal. That is a no-brainer. But there really is a Gazan fishing industry and it was said that the naval limits imposed by Israel were too restrictive for the fisherman. And so, Israel, as a gesture of goodwill, extended the zone from six to nine nautical miles. But that goodwill was abused, to Israel’s detriment.

10

Credit: daysofpalestine

What we also learn from this particular situation is that another war with Hamas is coming down the road – as if we didn’t already know this. It will be of substantial proportions, judging by what is being smuggled. We’re being told that this time Israel will choose the timing. Let it be! And let us hope that this time the fighting will not be terminated before Hamas is finished, whatever the international outcry.

Nerves of steel. Reaching for that strength.

In recent days, there has been talk – reports and rumors – of a unity government: that is, Zionist Camp (aka Labor), headed by Buji Herzog, joining Netanyahu’s coalition, with Likud at its core. Netanyahu has seemed inclined towards this because it would provide him with more political latitude and a more stable coalition; plus it would weaken the influence of the right-wing Habayit Hayehudi, headed by Naftali Bennett – who frequently challenges Netanyahu. While Herzog apparently craves whatever political influence and prestige he imagines would thus be conferred upon him.

I say Heaven forbid. Zionist Camp party members are opposed because it means bolstering the opposition – helping the right solidify its coalition – and selling out. Likud party members are similarly opposed because the Right-wing choices of the electorate should be honored and this would mean shifting the coalition to the Left. A strong percentage of the public is opposed, as well.

And now, after reports that such a union might be imminent, there is a new and welcome wrinkle in the situation:

After a variety of statements about not having received a serious offer to join the government, Avigdor Lieberman, head of Yisrael Beitenu, apparently did receive such an offer.

11

Credit: Avigdor Lieberman

He and Netanyahu are to meet tonight to discuss Lieberman’s coming into the coalition. He was in the previous government and served two terms previously as Minister of Foreign Affairs. He can be a bit off the wall sometimes, but he is solidly right wing and would pull the coalition to the Right. And so the prospect of his joining the government instead of Herzog is one that is greatly welcome. Lieberman says he will join if his terms are met.

For his part, Netanyahu has indicated frustration in dealing with Herzog and has let it be known that he will now be courting Lieberman. And Herzog? He says the prime minister cannot negotiate with him and Lieberman at the same time, so he is putting a hold on his negotiations.

This entire saga offers, I think, a bit of a glimpse into the backroom dealing that is going on, the political jostling. It also raises the question: Who is Binyamin Netanyahu? How could it be that he would consider both Herzog and Lieberman for his coalition? Is bolstering its numbers his only concern?

There has been considerable political tension of late between Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ya’alon, as a result of the latter’s speaking out on political issues and even encouraging the army brass to contradict the government directly if they disagree on policy – in the name of “free speech.” I think that Ya’alon’s behavior has been despicable. He has been insubordinate, increasingly giving voice to left wing positions that challenge government policies.

Netanyahu summoned him, presumably to chastise him, and they subsequently released a joint statement acknowledging that the Ministry of Defense answers to the government. It was said that they resolved their differences, but I do not believe it. I think they were simply papered over.

What has disturbed me is that Netanyahu has not seen fit to simply fire Ya’alon. (I will mention here only I passing and very tentatively that Lieberman says he wants to be Minister of Defense, but that does not mean he will get it.)

The French foreign minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, was here earlier this week to meet with Netanyahu and Abbas in order to explain the “Peace Initiative” that France is proposing. It is necessary, he says, because “the process is frozen, so there is a need for international intervention.”

12

Oh. Joy!

The plan, as I have explained before, involves two steps. First, a ministerial conference in Paris, that had been tentatively set for May 30, to which ministers of a select 20 countries will be invited, but which will exclude Israel and the PA. This conference will set the agenda for a larger peace conference in the fall.

(The latest news today is that the date will be pushed forward to some time in June because Secretary of State Kerry cannot come on the 30th, which is Memorial Day.)

France has also drafted a position paper that it has not yet made public.

http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/French-FM-New-peace-initiative-necessary-to-stop-deterioration-of-Israeli-Palestinian-conflict-454024

The notion that France has the moral authority or the wisdom or the objectivity to move forward on this is patently ridiculous. They are displaying the ultimate in chutzpa, setting up a situation that is bound to fail, but that will bring us some good measure of heartburn in the meantime.

Needless to say, PA leaders are delighted with this prospect and are making demands that France set a timetable for Israeli withdrawal from Judea and Samaria to behind the 1949 armistice line, which is erroneously referred to as the “’67 border.”

http://www.jpost.com/Arab-Israeli-Conflict/Palestinians-want-French-initiative-to-set-timetable-for-Israeli-West-Bank-withdrawal-454124

And this illustrates precisely what is wrong with this entire process, which isn’t really about genuine “negotiations” but rather an attempt to force Israel into an entirely untenable situation reeking of injustice.

“A peaceful settlement in Palestine can transform Palestine into a gate for democracy,” intoned PA prime minister Rami Hamdallah at a Ramallah press conference. They, of course, say whatever they think will resonate with certain segments of the international community. Anyone who truly believes a “Palestinian state” is going to foster democracy needs serious help.

Netanyahu has already said Israel is opposed to this “peace plan” because it provides a disincentive for the PA to genuinely negotiate – it gives them an “escape hatch” – while genuine face-to-face negotiations are the only way to proceed.

http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Politics-And-Diplomacy/Netanyahu-French-initiative-gives-Palestinians-escape-hatch-to-avoid-negotiations-454004

To demonstrate Israel’s willingness to participate in face-to-face negotiations, he has been making a series of statements about his commitment to this process and his readiness to meet Abbas at any moment.

Yes, I understand what he’s doing. I understand that he’s attempting to mitigate international criticism by demonstrating that he is cooperative with regard to peace-making efforts, and that it’s just the particular formulation being advanced by France that he opposes. Presumably, he is attempting at the same time to demonstrate that Abbas is not sincere.

This is the way he plays it, and his approach has a certain rationale. And yet, it makes me very uncomfortable. Of course, he knows Abbas is not coming to sit across the table from him, but there is danger in making statements to which we might be held later.

In an interview with the JPost, Dore Gold, Foreign Ministry Director-General spelled out yet another reason for Israel’s opposition to France’s diplomatic proposal:

“When French diplomats vote for a resolution at UNESCO that rejects the historic Jewish connection to Jerusalem, it should not come as a surprise that Israel rejects the French initiative and the political horizon it aspires to ultimately expose.”

http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Politics-And-Diplomacy/Gold-to-Post-Enshrining-Jewish-state-in-French-453829

And so…stay tuned.

5.Obama’s coup d’etat By Joan Swirsky, Canada Free Press

T. Belman. This is an absolutely brilliant article. I totally agree with its thesis. The lies that Ben Rhodes bragged about to get the Iran Deal passed remind me of the lies told by Obama to get Obamacare passed. It all fits a pattern.

13

[..] The coup d’état of 2008! Before that fateful year, America had experienced just about everything (see above) but not a coup. The term itself is defined as a sudden and often violent overthrow of an existing government by a small group. If you never heard or read about the Obama coup d’état, it is because this coup was anything but typical, and also because the leftwing media, which largely shills for every leftwing scheme, failed utterly to report the truth of this attempt to overthrow the America they loathe but most of the rest of us love and cherish.

Not convinced? See last week’s headlines about how the traitorous Ben Rhodes and his boss in the Oval Office purposely lied to the American public about the catastrophic deal with genocidal Iran, jihad capital of the world, and relied upon the craven media to perpetuate those lies, which they did.
Instead of being led by a small group of militaristic fanatics who, like Communists Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, violently seized power in Cuba in 1959, or the many other anarchists, nihilists, and political fanatics who followed the same template—Wikipedia spells out here in detail all the coups that have taken place since before the Common Era until today—the Obama coup had been precisely conceived, meticulously planned, and covertly financed for well over 75 years, and then seamlessly executed without a bullet being fired!

It is not that the term coup d’état has never been used in the modern political history of the United States of America. In 1992, Alan J. Weberman and Michael Canfield wrote a book entitled “Coup D’état in America: The CIA and the Assassination of John F. Kennedy.” No need to elaborate on this self-explanatory title.

But that was the last century. More recently, in 2013, Dr. Paul Craig Roberts, American economist, journalist, blogger, and former United States Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy under President Reagan in 1981, wrote an explosive article, “The Unspoken Truth: Coup D’état in America,” which stated: “The American people have suffered a coup d’ état, but they are hesitant to acknowledge it. The regime ruling in Washington today lacks constitutional and legal legitimacy. Americans are ruled by usurpers who claim that the executive branch is above the law and that the US Constitution is a mere ‘scrap of paper.’”

The same year, on June 7, 2013, conservative radio broadcaster, Rush Limbaugh, cited Herbert Meyer, who was “instrumental in establishing Reagan administration policies that brought down the Soviet Union,” and an article Meyer had written in The American Thinker in which he asserted that essentially what has taken place in America since 2008 is, indeed, a coup. “Not a violent coup…but nevertheless a takeover of a government, and it’s being done by the Obama administration.”

And this month, former Clinton insider Larry Nichols says he no longer supports either Bill or Hillary and reveals why he has switched his allegiance to Mr. Trump. “We are at the beginning of a velvet or silent coup,” Nichols says, “It’s been going on for years. There’s been a slow subtle takeover of our form of government…[but] if we don’t stop Hillary, it’s over.”

MENACING SIGNS

In campaigning for the presidency in 2007-08, then-Senator Obama exhibited a startling distaste for the nation he wanted to lead, expressing a sneering contempt for the country that had given him everything. And when his wife, Princeton and Harvard Law School graduate Michelle Obama, in her mid-forties at the time, said she was never proud of her country until her husband ran for the office, she displayed yet another rare and ugly form of ingratitude.

14

Only three months after his election, Barack Obama traveled to France, Prague, London, Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, and Mexico, seemingly for the express purpose of apologizing for America and reciting the sins he still believes our country is guilty of—trips which I detailed in an article entitled The President Who Hates His Country.

More frightening was Mr. Obama’s apparently irresistible attraction to the criminal enterprise known as The Muslim Brotherhood (MB), an organization founded in 1928 and closely aligned and complicit with the genocidal Hitler regime during World War II, and, today, a virulently anti-Western and anti-Semitic group that actively supports terrorist organizations like Hamas, Hezbollah, et al.

The MB’s motto is: ““Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” Nice, right? Just like the U.S. Constitution which speaks about the right of people to enjoy freedom, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Frank Gaffney, former Reagan administration official and founder of the Center for Security Policy, spells out in chilling detail the far reach of the Muslim Brotherhood in America since Barack Obama took office. From the beginning of his tenure, MB leaders have had unfettered access to the Oval Office, and many members are now found in the highest reaches of our government, including Homeland Security, State, the Pentagon, Justice, et al. At all levels, MB members are creating and implementing both the domestic and foreign policies of our country.

Blogger Kevin Jackson of www.theblacksphere.net, lists here just a few of the MB agents who now occupy and make policy in the most sensitive positions of our government.

And the American Report offers this six-part series entitled The Betrayal Papers, which presents an in-depth and chilling picture of the following:

Part I: Under Obama, the US Captured by the Muslim Brotherhood

Part II: In Plain Sight ‚Äì A National Security “Smoking Gun”

Part III: Obama’s Scandals and Assaults on Freedoms Explained

Part IV: A New Genocide

Supplemental Article: And the Press Says Nothing…

Part V: Who is Barack Hussein Obama?

Part VI: The Chicago Connection

It is relevant to mention that a central feature of the Muslim Brotherhood is Sharia Law, which believes in throwing gay people off roofs to their death and in “honor” killings for such unforgivable sins as a daughter wanting to date a non-Muslim or a wife wanting to get a divorce—the list of 7th century dictates is as lengthy as it is primitive.

Just as horrifically sub-human is the strict enforcement of routine female genital mutilation (FGM), a practice that America’s “canary in the coal mine,” Pamela Geller, has described at length in an article entitled, “FBI Asks for Help Investigating Rampant Female Genital Mutilation.”

“The gruesome practice of female genital mutilation,” Geller writes, “is at record highs in America…,” putting a half-million U.S. girls at risk.

Steve Emerson, founder and executive director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, and journalist John Rossomando point out that Barack Obama has given a red carpet to radicals in the White House.

“Let us first dispense with the pretense,” writes author and veteran Lawrence Sellin, Ph.D. “Every notion we in the West have adopted in terms of dealing with Muslims, both individually and collectively, is wrong. It is a policy based more on political correctness than on rational analysis, more on a misunderstanding of culture than religion. Muslims don’t assimilate, they infiltrate.”

Is it any surprise, with our infrastructure crumbling, and 94-million people unemployed—approximately one-third of our population—that the Obama State Department is sending $770-million overseas to refurbish mosques, or that, under Obama, the U.S. has kowtowed to Muslim Brotherhood demands that we not blacklist even one Islamic “charity”, even though all such charities are closely associated with terrorist organizations?

It has gotten so bad that one of the founders of the Department of Homeland Security, recently-retired Philip Haney, says the U.S. has completely capitulated to Muslim terrorism, a claim he expands on in his new book, “See Something, Say Nothing: A Homeland Security Officer Exposes the Government’s Submission to Jihad.”

Even worse is the dire information delivered to Congress this year by Admiral James A. Lyons—the former Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and “the father” of the Navy’s anti-terrorism units. “The transformation of America has been in full swing ever since 2008,” he said. “No question we’ve got a hell of a job ahead of us with the Muslim Brotherhood penetration in every one of our national security agencies, including all our intelligence agencies, and has been reported by some, our lead intelligence agency headed by a Muslim convert (a reference to CIA Director John Brennan, long rumored to have converted to Islam in the 1990s in Baghdad). This is not going to be an easy task.”

“The threat is Islam,” the Admiral added. “Let’s make no mistake about it. There’s no such thing as radical Islam.”

All this is not to omit the hundreds of thousands—by now, perhaps millions—of undocumented, un-vetted illegal aliens that the Obama regime has allowed to enter our country from the ravaged, terrorist-ridden Middle East, and, just the other day across the Texas border, 4,000 Cubans.

In addition to seeding jihadists throughout our population, another motive is to swamp voting precincts all over America in November to insure a Democrat victory at any costs, the better to preserve and enlarge upon the “bring America to its knees” agenda of the left. The left has not worked for nearly a hundred years to see what they’ve accomplished so far—socialized medicine and education, fascistic IRS, State, and Justice Departments, increased reliance on the policies of that New York cesspool known as the United Nations, and an open-borders, one-world-order policy—be wiped out of existence, erased, debased, destroyed, undone, by a Trump victory just five-and-a-half months from now.

As political editor Charlotte B. from the West Coast explains: “Don’t be surprised if you see socialist-Marxist agitators creating chaos and mayhem at both the Democrat and Republican conventions, and bringing in battalions of rabble rousers, disrupters, and crowds of intimidators to frighten voters in preselected precincts from entering their designated voting locations—think the Black Panthers in Philadelphia in 2008, think Black Lives Matter, LULAC, and La RAZA—all of whom have already shown their ugly agendas at numerous Trump rallies.”

BY NOW, WE ALL “GET” IT

What “we,” the American public now “get” is that, yes, we’ve had a coup d’état designed first to convert our country into the kind of communist/socialist paradise that Barack Obama and his pie-in-the-sky acolytes actually believed would bring about “change you can believe in,” and second to usher in a de facto caliphate in which the dictates of Islam prevail. Here is a sample of a piece entitled

All of a Sudden:

· All of a sudden, Islam is taught in schools; Christianity and the Bible are banned.

· …we must stop serving pork in prisons.

· …Muslims are refusing to do their jobs if it conflicts with Sharia Law.

· …Muslim training compounds are popping up throughout the USA.

· …the Attorney General of the United States vows to prosecute anyone who engages in “anti-Muslim speech”.

· …our troops are withdrawn from Iraq and the Middle East, giving rise to ISIS.

· …a deal with Iran is made at any cost, with a pathway to nuclear weapons and hundreds of billions of dollars handed over to fund their nefarious goals

· …the American Navy is diminished to 1917 pre-World War I levels of only 300 ships, the Army is at pre-1940 levels…

· …Obama won’t even say the words “Islamic Terrorism.”

Is it any wonder that sane and normal people have turned to Donald Trump, a wildly successful business mogul with a five-decade track record of getting things done? Such a no-brainer!

What we also “get” is the contrived reasons being perpetrated by Mr. Trump’s critics, who, in all of their self-righteous umbrage, try to fool the public by citing—inaccurately—the presumptive nominee’s lack of conservatism, as if the so-called authentic conservatives in Congress can point to one single accomplishment in the last almost-eight years.

Writer Dwight Kehoe explains what they’re really afraid of. “From the lowest echelons to the highest positions of power in this bloated government, there exists the infestation of corruption, mismanagement, tax evasion, double dipping, regulatory extortion, payoffs, shakedowns, thievery and treachery. Donald Trump has promised that he will do everything in his extensive ability and tireless energy to clean out every fibrous tentacle, no matter how deeply they have spawned. That is what they fear.”

6.Israel–not Apartheid; Islam–Nothing but Apartheid- Exposing the Big Lie By Prof. Phyllis Chesler Arutz Sheva IsraelNationalNews.com 5/18/16

15 Prof. Phyllis Chesler, a Shillman-Ginsburg Fellow at the Middle East Forum and recipient of the 2013 National Jewish Book Award, is the author of sixteen books, including Women and Madness, Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman, and The New Anti-Semitism. She has written four studies about honor killing, Her latest books are An American Bride in Kabul, (Palgrave Macmillan) and Living History: On The Front Lines for Israel and the Jews.Professor Chesler may be reached at her website www.phyllis-chesler.com.

Israel has long been accused of being an apartheid nation state–a state involved in “ethnic cleansing.”

Pure propaganda! This is a brazen Big Lie.

The largest practitioner of both gender and religious apartheid in the world is Islam or Islamism.

Religious apartheid exists when the dominant state religion allows no other religion to exist and flourish. For example, Muslim countries do not allow churches to be built, Christian insignia to be displayed; Muslim mobs and governments destroy existing churches or convert them into mosques.

Today, living Christians are persecuted, tortured and murdered in the name of Islam all across the Muslim world. Oddly, on April 16th of this year, (for the second time) the Pope offered no solace and no asylum to persecuted Christian; he publicly offered to take in a symbolic number of Muslim refugees into the Vatican.

For many centuries, Muslims have also forcibly converted, persecuted, and massacred Hindus, the “wrong” kind of Muslim, (the Shia v Sunni war is quite intense), ex-Muslims, Muslim dissidents, Baha’i, Zoroastrians, and Buddhists. Afghanistan was once a mainly Buddhist country until Islamic Jihad ravaged the land and massacred the Buddhist monks who refused to convert to Islam.

Jews? We are pariahs, “monkeys,” evil-doers –and this is the only reason that Israel, the Jewish state, has been under attack for more than one hundred years in the Jewish Holy Land. It is the reason that Muslim mobs and Muslim leaders have consistently exiled, taxed, tortured and murdered Arab, North African, and Central Asian Jews.

Israel allows Arab Muslims and Arab Christians to live in Israel–they are Israeli citizens, some serve in the Knesset, sit on the Israeli Supreme Court, work as physicians, nurses, and researchers in Jewish hospitals.

Palestinians envision Shomron and Judea aka the West Bank as a place that must become “yudenrein,” free of Jews. Thisis ethnic cleansing. The entire Muslim Middle East is now “yudenrein,” just as Gaza now is. This is ethnic cleansing.

In terms of gender apartheid: I once lived in Kabul and was, in effect, held captive there for five long months in a marriage that was not at all what I expected. I write about this in An American Bride in Kabul. I love my opening line…”I once lived in a harem in Afghanistan…”

It was a grand adventure but a very dangerous one. I could not believe my eyes when I first saw women wearing burqas–sensory deprivation isolation chambers which the West should ban. (I am not talking about headgear, just about face masks).

In 2003, after a very successful feminist lecture, an African-American feminist audience at a free-standing conference at Barnard, asked me–completely off-topic–where I stood on the issue of the women of “Palestine.”

I responded by saying: “I think you are asking me where I stand on the issue of apartheid and I oppose it. Islam is the largest practitioner of gender and religious apartheid in the world.” And I began explaining what I meant.

A near-riot broke out and I had to be hustled out for my safety. These feminists did not care about women or about “Palestine;” they cared about demonizing Israel and, as women of color, they identified with Arabs because they thought they Arabs are all people of color; that there is no such thing as Jews of color; and because they have absolutely no idea of the anti-black prejudice that characterizes Arab and Muslim cultures.

I was both an eyewitness and a survivor of the kind of gender apartheid that is indigenous to many tribal cultures. Barbaric customs, which include the savage subordination of women, have not been caused by Western imperialism or colonialism.

This point is very hard for many Western thinkers to fathom.

Practices such as forced veiling, purdah, honor-based violence, child marriage, arranged marriage, polygamy, honor killing, and FGM, long preceded the rise of the Taliban, Al-Qaeda, Hamas, Boko Haram, and ISIS.

Furthermore, most Western thinkers do not comprehend that Islam has a long history of slavery, racism, religious and gender apartheid, colonialism, imperialism, conversion via the sword, etc.

This understanding should be easy to achieve given our daily, horrendous headlines. But no one wishes to be the first to say: “The Emperor is naked.” Do they?

Today, Orwell’s rules apply. Once the universities have indoctrinated the coming generations; once people are infected with a fake but lethal narrative, reason alone cannot prevail.

People are punished for thinking independently. They fear that by criticizing barbaric behavior when committed by formerly colonized men of color, especially Arabs, particular “Palestinians,” (we have the malevolent influence of Edward Said to thank for this) that they themselves will be demonized as racist “Islamophobes.”

We must hold our universities accountable for not teaching objective truth, for preferring junk social science and propaganda.
Unfortunately, the virus of anti-Semitism (Jew hatred) has been rising among progressives/Leftists–the so-called “good people.”

Increasingly in the 21st century, people who were once classical liberals have now become totalitarian leftists; those who were once in favor of free speech and academic freedom now confuse hate speech with free speech and are willing to grant hate speech, Blood Libels, and junk social science, the privileges of academic freedom.

Unbelievably, the global professoriate and human rights activist industry today stand with “Palestine,” Occupy Wall Street, and Black Lives Matter, and not with Christians, Yazidis, and Kurds who are being massacred by Muslims—or with the women who are being kidnapped into sex slavery by ISIS & Boko Haram.

I have worked with Christians–the Hatune Foundation–who have been rescuing ISIS’s sex slaves. Anti-Christians are not doing this work, although Western feminists have been involved in teaching the counselors who console them the basics of Western trauma and recovery practices.

Even if I could be persuasive, the coming generations are not getting to hear or read me. Non-invitations and dis-invitations can do that. To the best of my knowledge, four of my six 21st century books, The New Anti-Semitism, The Death of Feminism, An American Bride in Kabul and Living History: On The Front Lines for Israel and the Jews, 2003-2015 have never been adopted by a university for a course.

The tasks before us are clear:

Globally, we must militarily, economically, legally, politically, intellectually, ideologically, theologically, and socially defeat Islamist Jihad.

We must also hold our universities accountable for not teaching objective truth, for preferring junk social science and propaganda.

We must restore civility and intellectual and political diversity to our campuses and to our media.

Brown Shirt-like mobs should not be allowed to engage in “hostile takeovers” of lectures with which they disagree.

We must also somehow de-program those who have been indoctrinated with America-hating and Israel-hating propaganda.

Thus, America should leave the U.N., which has not stopped a single genocide or a single honor killing and has only been effective in one thing only: legalizing Jew hatred.

Underage operative of terror group interrogated by Shin Bet reveals ‘extensive information’ about attack plans, agency says May 10, 2016, 3:20 pm 8

A teen Hamas operative revealed “extensive information” about the terror organization’s tunnels and plans for infiltrating Israel in order to carry out attacks, after he was arrested by security forces last month, the Shin Bet said Tuesday.

As of last month — before Israel announced it had discovered a tunnel in Israeli territory — the terror group was continuing to dig into Israel to carry out attacks despite Israeli efforts to detect and destroy the subterranean passageways, the Shin Bet security service said Tuesday, citing information gleaned from a captured Gazan teen involved in the tunneling project.

In his interrogation, the minor revealed “extensive information on Hamas activities to dig tunnels that are to be used for Hamas fighters to infiltrate Israeli areas,” the Shin Bet said.

The security service stressed that the minor is just one of a “succession of [Hamas] operatives” who have provided information to Israel about the terror group’s “intensive tunneling activities.”

According to the operative, who was unnamed due to his young age, Hamas is well aware of Israel’s attempts at locating the group’s tunnels, but continues to construct them undeterred, the Shin Bet said.

The teen was arrested prior to the discovery of the two attack tunnels in the past month. Therefore his testimony does not address what impact the still-secret but widely discussed tunnel detection technology has had on Hamas’s burrowing plans.

During his interrogations, the teenage Hamas member gave interrogators details of the locations, building strategies and what materials are used in their construction, the security service said.

“For example, in an effort to camouflage their activities, the diggers are adopting a variety of methods like forbidding them from leaving the tunnels in work clothes, requiring them to shower and change clothes within the tunnel, and more,” the Shin Bet said.

Hamas also planted explosives both along the tunnels and in the areas surrounding them, in order to prevent Israeli forces from entering them and killing those who do, the teenager told interrogators.

In addition, the Hamas detainee revealed some of the terror group’s battle plans for future conflicts. For instance, most of the group’s training exercises were “offensive,” as opposed to defensive, dealing with “infiltration, entering buildings, detonating explosives, etc.,” the security service said.

According to the Shin Bet, this appears to be “a part of their battle plan to have the next fighting take place within Israeli territory.”

Interrogators also extracted information “about the routes of the tunnels that will be used in emergency situations by Nachba operatives, the elite unit of Hamas, and also information about the numerous tunnel shafts in the Strip,” the Shin Bet said in a statement.

The Palestinian teen came from the Jabaliya refugee camp and belonged to Hamas’s Northern Gaza Brigade, the Shin Bet said.

The unnamed teen admitted to interrogators that he had joined the terror organization just before the 2014 Gaza war, known in Israel as Operation Protective Edge.

During the 50-day conflict, the teen took part in the fighting, “including in ambushes, as a lookout against IDF forces, doing reconnaissance and digging tunnels into Israel,” the Shin Bet said.

In addition to his tunnel-digging role and combat training, the underage Hamas member kept explosives in his home for the terrorist organization, the Shin Bet said.

For his actions in the organization, the Gazan teen was indicted Tuesday in a Beersheba court. Underage operative of terror group interrogated by Shin Bet reveals ‘extensive information’ about attack plans, agency says

9.Unity talks hung up on a unilateral division of Jerusalem Coalition expansion talks go on, but Herzog’s demand for ‘separation plan’ giving PA control of Arab parts of Jerusalem presents problems. By Ari Yashar Arutz Sheva INN 5/18/16

Herzog & Netanyahu – (Reuters) Please wait for access to Websites & publication info

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Opposition head MK Yitzhak Herzog (Zionist Union) are continuing their talks to bring Herzog’s leftist party into the coalition, but as of Wednesday morning there have yet to be any breakthroughs on a unity government.

The core sticking point between the sides remains the diplomatic policies that a joint government would pursue.

Netanyahu refuses to allow Herzog to advance his “separation plan” from the Palestinians, which among other things involves cutting off Arab neighborhoods such as Isawiya from the Jerusalem municipality and transferring them to Palestinian Authority (PA) control in a unilateral division of the capital.

Herzog has long touted his idea of dividing the capital and making massive concessions, but ironically Netanyahu and his governments have also been accused of enforcing a quiet de facto division of the 3,000-year-old capital of the Jewish people.

Aside from the “separation plan,” it appears that Netanyahu is reluctant to give Herzog a free hand in holding peace talks by himself or making announcements about a reduction of construction in Judea and Samaria.

The talk of construction has revolved around a formal building freeze in the Biblical heartland of Israel. Netanyahu’s past two governments have been imposing a covert and informal construction freeze on the region ever since the last failed round of peace talks in 2013.

Despite the difficulties in the talks, Herzog’s representatives and MKs of his Labor faction who support joining the government are holding intense discussions with the Labor convention to try and convince them to throw their weight behind the move.

Zionist Union MK Revital Swid on Wednesday morning told Army Radio that she opposes joining a unity government, but will accept whatever decision the party makes.

“I am against joining Netanyahu’s government – it would be a great mistake, but if an opportunity comes suddenly, which will be an historic opportunity, we will consider it,” she said.

Meanwhile Likud MK David Amsalem warned that bringing Zionist Union into the government would bring about the downfall of the coalition.

“Bringing the Labor party into the government is insolence and a bold-faced lie to our voters,” he said of the union with Likud’s leftist rivals. “By the way, the government won’t last long anyway – within five to seven months we will see it break apart because of internal clashes. What do we have in common with the Labor party?”

The State Department has revealed that for two years it withheld an email that would have exposed Hillary Clinton‘s email server prior to her wiping it.

Judicial Watch claims that the 2012 email was purposely withheld because it proved Clinton was using her government account for personal use and not State Department business.

The State Department tried to cover up the email by filing a secret court brief, hoping that a federal judge would hide tens of thousands of emails.

What exactly is in this secret email? The email, sent on Sept. 29, 2012, was sent from Clinton to then-Deputy Chief of Staff Jake Sullivan. It “concerns talking points for Clinton calls with senators about the Benghazi attack.” The email is also said to contain Clinton’s non-state.gov address.

A state Department letter sent to Judicial Watch states that “the Department has determined that one document previously withheld in full in our letter dated November 12, 2014 may now be released in part.”

But Judicial Watch asserts that the State Department’s November 12 letter does not reference any withheld emails.
