Short term care insurance expert Jesse Slome

One of the nation's leading experts in the marketing of insurance and financial products is set to deliver a keynote address focused on what he sees as a significant opportunity for insurance agents and financial advisors.

"America's seniors are completely unprepared to deal with the consequences of health issues and very real risk of needing long-term care at some point before they die," declares Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance and the National Advisory Center for Short-Term Care Information.

Slome is set to address attendees at the upcoming Medicare Supplement Insurance Summit taking place Monday, April 25 at the Westin Hotel in Kansas City.  The daylong event is free-to-attend for all agents and financial advisors.

"Medicare increasingly has gaps in coverage as government works to limit the cost of this massive program," Slome notes.  "Seniors who thought they would be covered are finding they are responsible for costs, than can amount to tens of thousands of dollars."

When it comes to long-term care insurance, Slome notes that while sales of traditional long-term care insurance continue to decline, sales of short term care insurance products are increasing.

Slome sees the changes and issues facing traditional long-term care insurance as one reason for insurance agents to learn more about short-term care insurance products.  "These offer an affordable option for consumers, particularly seniors," Slome believes.  "These products also are an alternative long-term care planning option for seniors when cost, age or health is an issue.  "More people are looking into short-term care insurance products which can pay for care in your own home, which is where most people needing long-term care want to be," Slome adds.

Slome talk will take place at the 2016 Medicare Supplement Insurance Summit.  The national conference kicks off with the free day for insurance agents who want to learn more as well as visit with the 40 national exhibitors present for the event.   Over 500 Medigap industry leaders will be present for the national conference.

The American Association for Long Term Care Insurance (www.aaltci.org) is the national trade organization focused on educating individuals about the importance of planning for the risk of long term care.  The American Association for Medicare Supplement Insurance (www.medicaresupp.org( focuses on Medigap industry issues and helps link consumers with Medicare Supplement agents.  The National Advisory Center for Short Term Care was established in 2015 to build awareness for the important role short term care insurance plays in protecting seniors.
