December 16, 2014, Los Angeles, CA -  Interest in long term care insurance planning has driven a record number of consumers to contact the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance.

"Today we helped the 15,000th consumer connecting this year; a most significant number," reports Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance (AALTCI).   "This particular individual already had a policy and was facing a rate increase.  We explained his options and how he could not come close to equal coverage even after paying the full increase request."

According to AALTCI the vast majority of consumers calling the organization are in the process of researching long term care insurance options.  "About a third are just starting the process, half have already met with an insurance agent and are comparing and a number have already applied and are having second thoughts or concerns," Slome adds.

The Association reports that roughly 10,000 Americans purchase long term care insurance each month.  "This is a significant purchase and it can be confusing to consumers," Slome admits.  "Often they are presented with what we call an 'off-the-shelf' coverage recommendation that's just not appropriate for their particular budget or personal needs," the director continues.  "This is clearly not a one-size-fits-all product or solution."

"The policy features, options and pricing today varies so significantly," Slome notes.  "And, it's become more complicated as financial advisors increasingly recommend life insurance policies that may pay a long term care benefit."

"If you are going to purchase something that costs anywhere from $100-to-$400 per month per-person, it really pays to do your homework," Slome admonishes.  "We are always pleased when consumers call to ask questions or visit the organization's website.  That's our job and we're glad to provide such a valuable service."
