Books, Books, and More Books

Since The Publishing Connection (www.thepublishingconnection.com) relaunched this year, as a successor to Publishers and Agents, founded 11 years ago, the Company has now expanded from San Francisco to several other cities nationally and internationally.  These include Grosse Ile, Michigan – a suburb of Detroit; Lafayette, California; and an outpost in Mexico.

The company has been expanding to meet the growing need for its service, which helps authors connect with publishers, agents, and the film industry at a time when finding a publisher, agent, or film producer has become harder than ever.

According to Creative Director, Gini Graham Scott, "It's very hard for a new writer to find a publisher or agent, because the industry has become so celebrity and high-profile driven.  And writers may think they have a great opportunity when a well-known publisher offers them a royalty contract, but the catch is they want a commitment for the writer to buy 5000 or 10,000 books – which would cost about $25,000-60,000.  So it's really a self-publishing offer to buy all of these books with the imprint of an established publisher.  But if the author is going to self-publish, this can be done for less than $500 or even free."  The company helps with this self-publishing process, too.

The most recent additions to the staff include Laura Hipshire, the Customer Service Director, based in Michigan, and Chelsea Donlin, the Website Design Manager, based in San Francisco. Recently, in the course of updating the databases, Gini Graham Scott, found publishers for seven of her books, and she has recently completed two of them which will be out in late October or November: The New Middle Ages to be published by Nortia Press and Turn Your Dreams into Reality: Simple Tools and Techniques to Get Everything You Want to be published by Llewellyn Worldwide.  The other books will be out in 2015.

The service works by connecting clients who use their own email with a targeted group of book editors, literary agents, foreign agents, and those in the film industry, and for writers who need extra help in what to do, Scott writes a series of weekly blogs on the website about how writers can be successful. A dozen of these blogs are now available as a book: How to Find Publishers and Agents and Get Published: Tips and Techniques from the Publishing Connection Blog for Writers. http://tinyurl.com/pz9vu9o).  Among the topics covered are how to write a good query letter, whether to find a publisher or self-publish, how to turn blogs and articles into a book, how to negotiate with publishers, and how to sell film rights for a book or series of blogs.

The company also helps authors write proposals and consults on all phases of the writing and publishing process.
