Denver, Colorado January 7, 2014 - Might early and ongoing detection of caregiving needs by medical practice staff support improved patient outcomes? How often does the ability to perform activities of daily living and to manage aspects of a household negatively affect health in the aging and disabled population?

According to Pamela D. Wilson of The Care Navigator, disabled and older adults are adversely affected by declining abilities to manage daily personal and household needs. These difficulties eventually increase the likelihood of advancing poor health and experiencing unexpected health emergencies.

"It is often the little things that are accepted as normal aging or changes in health that are hidden because of embarrassment that results in unexpected care situations for spouses and family members. Caregiving is an unexpected role for adult children who are often raising their own children and building careers. Caregiving is challenging for spouses who bear a great deal of guilt when having to make care decisions for a husband or wife needing care who disagree."

To support professional caregivers in recognizing needs and understanding the struggles of family caregivers, Pamela D. Wilson developed The Caring Generation®. The Caring Generation is an educational website providing the opportunity for professional caregivers to support overwhelmed family caregivers, disabled individuals and older adults frustrated by poor health and physical decline. The website is www.TheCaringGeneration.com

• Family caregivers are lost, not knowing where to turn for support when parents, spouses and others, commonly in denial about health issues, insist "I don't need any help"

• Older adults visiting medical practices put on their "best face" often failing to mention important information that might help identify current health concerns

• Many patients lack the ability to follow through on physician recommendations due to declining cognitive, organizational or physical abilities

• Offering education and support to patients and caregivers provides motivation for individuals to take the initiative to make beneficial changes in daily routines, habits and activities

A FREE webinar titled, "Denial of Care Needs: Tips for Responding to Non-Compliant or Difficult Patients"  is available to practice managers and office staff who join The Caring Generation as professional caregivers by February 14, 2014.

The Caring Generation FREE library provides articles, podcasts and videos authored and produced by Pamela D. Wilson offering practical information in 30 categories that include: caregiving, caregiver burden and guilt, caregiver support, costs of care, memory loss, elder abuse etc. The information and guidance provided is based on Pamela's fifteen years of experience in the aging and healthcare industry and her personal experience with the loss of both parents and other family members.

Pamela's company, The Care Navigator, has served Denver and the Colorado Front Range since 2000, providing caregiving advocacy and support in five main areas: unexpected events, ongoing care and household oversight, consultations and assessments, guardianship and power of attorney and care transitions. Pamela D. Wilson is an author, speaker and educator committed to higher standards of care and compassion in caregiving.
