GiveCollege, a new San Diego based company, provides a comprehensive platform helping families afford college through education, tracking and fundraising. GiveCollege is a comprehensive platform helping families afford college through education, tracking and fundraising. GiveCollege is FREE for parents and offer a safe and secure place where they can register their child's 529 college savings plan and (1) ask friends and family to contribute to their college savings in lieu of traditional gifts on holidays and special occasions and/or (2) create a family specific fundraiser and ask friends and family to sponsor their child by contributing money to their 529 college savings plan (for example, asking Grandma for $5 for every book Gavin reads over the summer or every A he earns in school). GiveCollege was founded in 2011 by local San Diego mothers, Angela Merrill and Julie Delahunt, and is already a premiere source of information for parents who want to learn how to prepare for college. The women, both working professionals at the time, were faced with a barrage of birthday parties for friend's children. Noticing the piles of unused toys, Julie began to look for avenues to help their friends save for the ever increasing cost of college instead of contributing to a pile of toys. Finding it nearly impossible, GiveCollege was conceived and now provides a platform to make college affordable for families.
