Adult Adventure Deficit Disorder (AADD) a phrase coined by Tim Ferriss author of The Four Hour Work Week, is the motivating force for many people to get out and have some fun, says Scott Lorenz, chief pilot and owner of Westwind Balloon Company in Michigan.
"A balloon flight is the perfect way to end boredom because it's an unforgettable experience," says Lorenz. "The main reason 'adventure' activities generate happiness is that they take command of all mental resources and create a special focus that breaks the back of any boredom issues. People want adventure and to enjoy life to the fullest, that's why a balloon flight is an exciting adventure experience guaranteed to eliminate boredom," says Lorenz.
In a report published in the International Journal of Epidemiology, "The findings on heart disease show there was sufficient evidence to say there is a link with boredom. It is important that people who have dull jobs find outside interests to keep boredom at bay, rather than turn to drinking or smoking," says Martin Shipley co-author of the report.
According to Ferriss, "Most corporate workers are bored and dangerously comfortable. They are in that gray area between love and hate that leaves most with constant low-grade anxiety and an acute sense of wasted potential. This is more common and more damaging than hate, because hate spurs action. Tolerable mediocrity leads you to wake up one day and ask 'what happened to the last 20 years?' Boredom should scare people as much as hate."
"Nobody forgets the excitement of balloon flight," says Lorenz. "It's an incomparable experience. The sensation of flying over trees, lakes and streams, spotting deer and other wildlife is unique and inspiring. When an activity touches someone both emotionally and on a multi-sensory level they'll remember it. If you really want to jazz up your life, kill the boredom and get rid of Adult Adventure Deficit Disorder, take a hot air balloon ride!"

What's on Lorenz's list of boredom busters? "I'd have to say white water rafting on the Colorado River, storm chasing tornados with a professional meteorologist, deep sea fishing, taking a zip line trip through the tops of a rain forest (did that last year) and flying balloons in Kenya and Switzerland," says Lorenz.
