Virginia Congressman Gerald E. "Gerry" Connolly (D-VA) yesterday visited MicroTech corporate headquarters in Northern Virginia, where the technology and systems integration leader hosted a town hall attended by over 100 MicroTech employees, management and guests. Congressman Connolly is serving his second term in the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia's 11th District, which encompasses Fairfax County, Prince William County, and the City of Fairfax. He was first elected in 2008 and reelected in 2010. He is the former Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in Fairfax County.
He is an influential member of Congress regarding many of today's hottest business issues, holding key leadership positions involving technology, innovation, and government contracting. During the hour-long event, the Congressman discussed a variety of topics that affected those in attendance to include the economy, debt, and local area improvements. He was fervent in his belief about how both major political parties need to work on the art of compromise and come together for progress emphasizing the need in Washington politics for "more cooperation and less gridlock." He also outlined his current bi-partisan legislation work protecting small and mid-sized businesses and highlighted the fact that his constituency includes the largest number of government contractors in a single district in the nation.
"We are honored to host Congressman Connolly, a well respected and influential leader for many years in Northern Virginia, and appreciate the time and insights he provided during our latest MicroTech town hall," said Tony Jimenez, President & CEO of MicroTech.
"The Congressman has always been a passionate advocate of small business, veterans, and military families, and his efforts have made the state of Virginia a leader in supporting our nation's patriots and the technology industry-both of which are very important to MicroTech."
During his visit, the Congressman also toured MicroTech's Innovation & Integration Center (I2C) and the company's latest initiative - the Social Media Command Center; MicroTech's high-tech showcase for new social media analytic solutions. Connolly characterized social media as
"an extremely powerful tool in connecting people, getting people involved, and elevating issues."
