It's the last day of the year and the Terra Nova we've become is a connected Earth by satellite, phone texting, and by e-communications. It brings more connection and greater diversity.  It brings simplicity and complexity.  What a world!

There are pros of being able to be found and cons of being able to be found. Multi-tasking is no longer in vogue when it puts people on the road at risk. Civil rights and social rights are now embattled by beeping, animal calls and favorite ring tones. Consumer electronics are smaller and smaller and books now are available on pads. Classrooms have no technology or are innundated.  Choirs can sing and virtually connect.  But meeting face to face still launches new products and new business drivers.

The consumer electronics annual gathering will convene this January in Las Vegas. Whether digital photography, printers, social media, smart phones, medical care access, child protection software, new games, new devices, cables, ear pieces, new memory or new applications, from pads to cpus, analysts to talent pitching ....it will all be there..from the Digital Entertainment Group to the smallest hand held device.

This competitive complex and now social media driven bazaar now without Steve Jobs is addressing more and more markets: whether touching on home, education, healthcare, seniors, children, moms, and workers technology has linked us for better or worse.

Whether networks, servers or systems, smart phones, software, or gaming, this is the place to find peripherals, audio-video, streaming or duplication resources. This is the place the world market convenes although some companies will no longer be attending. This is a showcase and a driver of new ideas.  CES is an international event and gathers visitors from all over the globe.

At the same time, your email box is full of reminders from cheap tickets to nonprofits need your help this season. Especially because of budget cuts, lack of capital and more people to serve, they will be exemplary in using the new resources that may have been first announced at several trade shows in several cities. Last year Skype reached new heights at the show.  At the same time you are considering what to do before you sign off- other journalists, buyers, manufacturers, resellers, new companies, and venture capitalists, bankers, and publicists, event planners, and taxis are looking forward to attending next month and seeing what's new, what's different, what's worth stocking, and what's worth selling online.

Las Vegas is ready. The trade, the unions, the hotels and the multinationals will descend on the city and promote their wares.This hard working event is a great example of important annual cultural tourism.  Like the Rose Bowl or Frankfurt's Music Messe, this is commerce that drives the patent world, connectivity in business, government and education, telephony, and the AATVC career cluster.  The copyright and privacy issues you hear of in the new legistlation will come alive in meetings and in offerings.  Whether the copyright world, the job market, our homes, hospitals, culture and offices, the newest device or breakthrough in storage and transmission can impact your home, office, or car.

Using small computers is no longer just limited to small pads, but some watches can let someone know we are coming home and ok. It's a new world.  It makes Maxwell Smart almost an oracle. But kidding aside the smart phone in your purse, bookbag, or briefcase can help you to remember to phone home today to help some charity with a last minute paypal or gift, or call a relative or friend and add a wish for a Happy and Prosperous New Year. It's almost 2012 and this high touch/high tech user friendly banking to Flip Video can be worth checking out even if you get online and plan it for next year.
