Western Pennsylvania Chapter of Institute of Management Consultants Reactivates in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, PA (November 16, 2011): David Norman (right), CMC, Chairman of the Institute of Management Consultants USA (IMC), presenting the Charter for the Western Pennsylvania Chapter of the Institute of Management Consultants to James R. Surman, CMC, (left) President of the newly reformed chapter. The luncheon meeting was held this past Friday at the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh, where the new chapter will be having future meetings.

The IMC is the sole certifying body of management consultants in the United States. According to Mr. Surman,

"We are an institute, not an association, organized under the New York laws of incorporation and we are one of 48 constituent national organizations under the auspices of the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes (ICMCI)."

Mr. Norman noted that the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation is "Competency based, not knowledge based -- you can't just read and memorize to become certified. The CMC designation is internationally standardized, with reciprocity in 48 countries, analogous to a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), without the licensure requirements. And the CMC process is compliant with ISO/IEC 17024." The certified management consultant's requisite behavior for the IMC certification (CMC) is in our "Code of Ethics": 1. Client commitment (integrity, Competency and independence), 2. financial integrity and 3. disclosure and commitment to the client and the profession.

The new chapter will be meeting at the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh every other month beginning December 9th for lunch at 12:00 noon. Guest speaker for this next meeting will be Mr. Raymond Graeca, Chief Executive Officer, Penn Highlands Health Care System, discussing the CEO's perception of ethics considered in client decision making when engaging management consultants.

The chapter is encouraging all Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia management consultants to become members and ultimately attain their certification. For more information or to register for the next luncheon, contact William McKibbin, PhD, CMC at wjmc@mckibbinusa.com or James R. Surman, CMC at RPIConsulting@msn.com.
