Retirement Financial Planning, Pitfalls, and Flat Markets
Columbus, OH
Tuesday, October 25, 2011

"Part of the frustration we feel with today's volatile, flat markets is that we are not getting the returns we anticipated or planned on. The market has been essentially flat over the last eleven years and may be flat for another three to five years or even longer. Flat markets call for tactical and alternative investment strategies. I wish I had better news for you but sometimes a reality check is important," says Certified Financial Planner Mark Singer.

Singer advocates developing a roadmap for retirement which takes into account interests, passions, goals, unique family circumstances, and of course tax planning. He cites common mistakes including not updating designated beneficiaries, IRA rollovers missteps, not allowing for the historical average inflation rate of around 4%, not taking into consideration all the tax consequences, and taking out more than 4% a year in retirement savings.
