Cosmetic Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery is Becoming Cosmetic Sculpting

"With so many innovations each year, it is a very exciting time to be a cosmetic surgeon," says Dr. Barry Lycka, internationally renowned cosmetic dermatologist. For example, liposuction has evolved from a general anesthesia procedure using and a large cannula to suction fat to a local anesthesia procedure with a much smaller cannula and liquefying fat. The result is tumescent lipo and smart lipo are body sculpting. With local anesthesia the procedure is much safer and patients can return to work the next day. Dr. Lycka has performed more than 6,000 lipo surgeries.

Many of the benefits of a traditional face lift can now be achieved with less invasive procedures that use lasers to tighten the skin. The result is a safer, less expensive procedure with minimal discomfort and or downtime. Patients should begin with the results they want and consult with the surgeon about various ways to achieve these results. With the face, for example, this might include skin tightening, fillers, implants, skin resurfacing, Botox, and many other options. Facial procedures are becoming a process of sculpting as opposed to just lifting sagging skin.

Consequently, cosmetic therapies are becoming increasingly common with 1,555,614 cosmetic surgeries and 11,561,449  minimally invasive procedures performed in the US in 2010.
