ILLEGAL DRUGGIES MAY BE IN YOUR HOME

CLEARWATER, FL, JUNE 4, 2011: The Federal Government's Household Survey on Drug Abuse, conducted annually, is considered the most reliable and most often quoted statistical database on the subject.

The latest figures show that between 30MM and 40MM, over 10% of the U.S. population, admitted to "have used some illegal drug within the last year."

Bear-in-mind that these are people who were reached by telephone during the survey period. It does not include those who weren't home, didn't answer the telephone, don't have a telephone, or lied about their drug usage. Lied about drug usage? Does this really happen? Do illegal drug users really lie about their habits? Hmmmmmm.

Just using the known statistics that are directly provable, that means that 1 in 10 people in any group are users of illegal drugs.

To make it scarier, an average of 88.92% of deaths attributed to drug overdoses are solely from in-home prescription drugs according to The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (www.samsha.gov).

Will you have at least 10 different people in your home over the next month or year? The reason you need to ask yourself this question has to do with protecting yourself, your family and your personal property.

Oddly enough, the most difficult of these to protect is your personal property. Deeds. Check Books. Prescription Drugs. Money. Private Correspondence. Rare Coins. Passports. Expensive Collectibles. Car Titles. And a lot more.

If you have a file cabinet with a lock, use it. Some desks and chests of drawers have a drawer that locks. Even taking the time to hide these things in a hard to find place helps.

Prescription drugs is the singular most frequently stolen in-home item. Pills you paid $1 each for at the pharmacy can sell for $10, $20, even $40 each on the street. Keep your prescriptions out of harm's way.

The more often a person has full access to your home, the more likely they will know where you keep your secure items. If that person has a drug problem, you will be a victim. Count on it.

I went on the Internet to search for solutions that might be good ideas. There are safes. There are locking chests and file cabinets. I even saw a mock safe that looked like a can of Coca-Cola. These items have varying degrees of safety attached to them. However, they all share one huge drawback: they are difficult, troublesome and awkward to use. Better idea needed now.

Good News – Bad News. The good news is that I did find a great item on the Internet called "The Drawer Lock System". This device clamps onto the outside of a typical drawer. It's locked and unlocked using your own personal PIN code which you set. Anyone who tries opening the drawer without using the proper PIN code gets an earful of loud siren screaming and bright flashing lights from the face panel.

This means you can protect your valuables right in your own bedroom safely and conveniently.

Unfortunately, this device is not on the market yet. While it is patented, it is not being manufactured by anyone.

I called the inventor / designer, Jim McLane in Tarpon Springs, FL. He's a cabinet maker and general contractor by trade. He told me, "Lots of clients have asked for a drawer lock system for their home chest of drawers. So I decided to create such a system."

"I spent over 2 years designing The Drawer Lock System. I went through the whole U.S. Patent ordeal. Got the patent. Now I'm ready to get it built and sold," he continued.

Now that he's ready to get his system manufactured, Jim has decided to partner with a qualified manufacturer / marketer rather than to build it himself. "Why re-invent the wheel?" he asks. "So I'm searching for someone or some company already in the business to work with," he concluded.

If anybody out there wants to get on board with Jim, you can contact me, Bill Thompson, at billtvinc@yahoo.com. Sure hope someone gets The Drawer Lock System made and on the market soon.
