June 9 to 11 an international plain language conference is held in Stockholm. The international association PLAIN is giving its eighth conference. The conference is held biannualy in different cities across the world.
Broad range of speakers The conference will be opened with a grand ceremony featuring none other than Professor Sture Allén as key note speaker. Prof. Allén is the former secretary of the Swedish Academy who select the Nobel laureates of literature. To kick off the big questions the governor of Stockholm Per Unckel will give a presentation about the importance of clear and legible language. During the conference the three conference rooms will be filled with well-known names as well as rising stars, including the recent winner of the Swedish Plain Language Crystal*.
Five main tracks The main theme for the conference is Establishing the framework for Plain Language. We have broken it down into five tracks with topics that appeal to both research-oriented participants as well as practicing journalists, translators and communicators:
- Practicing plain language
- Research on plain language
- Education and training in plain language
- Laws and regulations about plain language
- Plain language organizations
Plain Language Award The perfect ending to the event is the Christine Mowat Plain Language Achievement Award. For the first time, PLAIN will be awarding this prestigious prize for an outstanding plain language achievement at this year's conference.
