Lifesaving Resources Inc. (lifesaving.com) graduates 17 new Ice Rescue Instructors from their 9th annual International Ice Rescue Train-the-Trainer Academy on Sunday, February 20.

The intense 3.5-day Academy began on Thursday, February 17 and continued through Sunday, February 20 during which time the Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Law Enforcement personnel participated in 12 hours of classroom instruction and 15 hours of practical training on and through the ice.

The purpose of the Academy was to train First Responders as Ice Rescue Instructors.  The graduates are now authorized to go back to their own departments to conduct Ice Rescue training programs on behalf of their own departments.

The Academy was conducted at the Lifesaving Resources' Water & Ice Rescue Training Center in historic Harrisville, New Hampshire, while the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Keene, New Hampshire served as the host facility.

Deputy Chief Mark Howard of the Keene Fire Department welcomed the Instructor Candidates to Keene on Thursday evening and during the 3.5-day Academy, the Instructor Candidates participated in several practical emergency drills on the river in Keene, and toured the Keene Central Fire Station.

The faculty for the Academy included Gerald Dworkin, a professional Aquatics Safety and Water Rescue Consultant for Lifesaving Resources Inc.; Greg LeBlanc, a Captain with the Northwood (NH) Fire and Rescue Department; David Cianfrini, a Detective with the Sandown (NH) Police Department; and Scot Peterson, Vice President of Angel-GUARD (MA).  Dan Wilds, a Lieutenant and Training Office for the South Hero Vol. Fire Department (VT) was a guest speaker on the subjects of Field Treatment of Hypothermia and Incident Command.

The 17 graduates graduated Sunday afternoon and started their journeys back home.  They are now authorized for 3 years as Instructors and will begin training within their own departments to train other Fire, Rescue, EMS, and Law Enforcement personnel in Ice Rescue and Survival.

Lifesaving Resources will be conducting one additional Ice Rescue Technician Course at their Training Center on March 5.  Beginning in the spring, they will be offering several Water Rescue Technician Courses as well as Swiftwater Rescue Technician Courses, in addition to their annual International Water/Swiftwater Rescue Train-the-Trainer Academy, May 19 - 22 in Keene, New Hampshire.
