Denville, NJ - July 21, 2010 - Proper nutrition during an infant's first year is essential for long-term growth and development. Although breastfeeding is the best nutritional source for babies not all mothers breastfeed. For these infants, formula is a primary source of nutrition during their first months of life.

Studies indicate that low income communities and African Americans have the lowest breastfeeding rates in the country. Each month, USDA's Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, commonly known as WIC, provides infant formula at no cost to almost 2 million nutritionally at-risk infants in low-income households. The formula is free to WIC participants and unfortunately doesn't have the nutritional value that breast milk does.

In support of World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7th) Shari Criso is offering free on-demand viewing of her educational video at http://www.sharicriso.com/mybabyexperts Criso is a leading breastfeeding educator and award-winning author of the DVD, "Simply Breastfeeding". Her clients' success rates with breastfeeding to provide babies proper nutrition during the first year of life far exceed the national average.

Criso says "My mission is to educate, empower and inspire as many new and expectant parents as possible to successfully breastfeed their newborns, so they can reach their fullest potential – physically, emotionally, and mentally, regardless their location or their financial ability to pay for it"

Low income families have limited access to the education they need to make informed decisions about breastfeeding. Plus, many low income households receive government assistance and over half of all infant formula sold in the United States is purchased by WIC. To further complicate the situation hospitals are funded by the pharmaceutical companies that produce infant formula (an 8 Billion dollar industry) and in many cases, are required to distribute donated gifts bags to breastfeeding moms upon discharge. Often these gift bags contain formula "just in case" breastfeeding moms might need it.

Criso's sharing education at no cost via streaming video on her website. The video will be available for viewing through September 2010 and is offered in partnership with some of the top breastfeeding and baby product brands in the industry. http://www.sharicriso.com/mybabyexperts
